I'd guess that ALL 2:10 marathoners are capable of running 17 min 5k's! He's got some impressive stats both pre-and post Next%, so I wouldn't read much into running a slow 5k.
So, what you actually said, is not to be inferred....and what you didn't say is what you really meant?
Got it
thx
Also, you said it's the most amazing thing you ever read. That doesn't comport with your well reasoned walk-back.

So either the 17min 5k he mailed it in for a bad race or he has faked/cheated (im not even talking about the shoes) his way to the olympics ala rosie ruiz. But really 210 doesn't seem all that fast anymore considering the mass Japanese success and the low 2 hour marathons amd also the effect of shoes and PEDs such as ones used by Paula Ratcliffe and Hicham El Guerrouj.
2:10:25 is still 4:59 per mile. 15:29 5k pace.
That is very good.
Don't you need a bunch of training miles to get used to the new shoe before using them in a marathon?
Unsurprisingly, you do not understand the difference between correlation and causation
Ronnie Delaney, Eamon Coghlan, John Treacy, Frank O'Mara, Jerry Kiernan, Gerry Deegan, Mark Carroll, Marcus O'Sullivan, Neil Cusack, Ray Flynn, Andy Ronan, etc etc might not agree Paul!
He’s prone to a lie. 41 miles at 5 minute mile or quicker in a week and not counting the other 80 ‘slower’ miles.
has anyone pointed out that averaging 41 miles per week in a multi-month build up could mean that her had several 100 miles weeks interspersed a few weeks off for injury? like that could be 8 hundred mile weeks with after 6 weeks of varying mileage and significant cross training.

Why couldn't Bernard Lagat run 2:10?? If this guy can do it with next% and he's only a 14:05/28:32 guy on the track, why couldn't Bernard Lagat run way faster than 2:10 since he just ran sub 13:10 and 27:49 a couple years before his marathon?? I thought the shoes automatically make you run these times???
Plenty of fast people have failed to run 2:10 with the shoes, it's not the shoes. These people are fast, quit discrediting them. Chris Derrick, what's his PR 2:11 or something? He is a 27:30 10k guy and low 13's 5k guy. Why can't he get the job done with the shoes?
Bill Rodgers was only a 28:05 10k guy and ran 2:09 for the marathon. So someone running 28:32 10k could reasonably run 2:10 if they have the most perfect day they could imagine.

If you were only a bit smarter you would realize that you have just excluded yourself. There is nothing to indicate they Pollock is particularly talented. He has run 14:05 and 28:32. Decent times but nothing spectacular.
Neither is a 210. 28:30 is right in with what you would expect a 210 marathoner to be running

That was not the point I was addressing. Some clown said Paddock is essentially the most talented runner Ireland has produced. There is no evidence for this. That was my point. To address your point: the 28:32 was in 2014 and the 2:10 was in 2019 after an injury plagued buildup. That is all. I agree with Rojo that the shoes helped this guy run 2:10 BUT there is much we cannot know about his training or even potentially PEDs. I could see some runner beginning to use PEDs and then saying wow these shoes help a lot. We just do not know but anyway it is a message where people discuss these things.
I didn’t say he was essentially the most talent runner Ireland has ever produced. I said he is one of the most talented. I’m sorry you misunderstood me
If Roy Dooney had had those shoes back when he was running he would’ve ran 2:10 instead of 2:13.
Happens every day. I got Grandmum a pair of AlphaFlys is Kipchodge color scheme and she ran a 16 min 5k once I got her out the wheelchair.

Can you imagine what the televangelists will do when they realize how magical the shoes are? I say walk in the name of.....and secretly they have the magic shoes on!
I personally think that the supershoes may help some people disproportionately - and that may include people who've had serious injury woes.

Who is Paddock? Was he the one who ran 2:20?
No I was referring to the Irish Polock. I think I his name is spelled Pollock though.
