Are you foreign? US high schools typically use Sep 1 - Aug 31 which means Hunter was in the correct grade. He couldn't start any earlier.

Fisher earned his status in HS by achieving what others dream about and he did it at a normal age or in fact under aged when compared with others who achieved some of which he did.
Add to his list of previously mentioned accomplishments:
1) World Youth Team where he was the youngest of any of the participants in the 1500 m final. There he won his heat and became the second US distance runner to ever do so right after Blake Haney did it in an earlier heat.
2) World Junior Team where he was the youngest of any of the participants in the 1500 m.
What make both of those accomplishments stand out even more is the fact that he had only just begun to focus his efforts on running. Prior to that he played soccer. And, as I understand, he was at a level where he represented the US in Costa Rica and could easily have gone on to play division 1 soccer at any of the best programs.
3) Two time Gatorade National Cross Country Athlete of the Year.
4) Four time Gatorade Michigan Athlete of the year. Twice in Cross Country, twice in Track and Field.
5) 34 ACT
6) Throughout all of this and the other accomplishments previously mentioned, the guy remained humble, never ducked a race, interviewed like a seasoned pro, during high school and as he remains now a very nice guy and role model for the sport of Track and Field.
How could anyone, that has a brain, say Grant Fisher was over hyped in High School?

Agree with Ping being first (assuming you mean Grace). I might add Claudia Lane ahead of Tuohy because her 800 and 1600/mile times were surprisingly slow compared to her other times and she had a really short career. I would also add Rachel McArthur. Sure, she was good in high school but MileSplit focused on her way too much. You could also add Brynn Brown, but her high school career isn't over yet.
Yeah, when you compare the accolades and accomplishments of Fischer, relative to someone like Young, he looks under hyped if anything. You can argue Young was a better runner (maybe), but not nearly as accomplished. Maybe Fischer’s lack of hype relative to Young has more to do with the growth of social media?

Nope, I'm American. This has not been the experience where I grew up, nor where I'm living now.

This is it exactly. There are tons of these Instagram running fanpages that gush about high schoolers like Nico. This wasn't really a thing when Fisher was in high school.
Nothing wrong in acknowledging a brilliant high school running career, but as with any other sport, and probably moreso with distance running given injuries, unpredictable progression, loss of interest, etc., great high school athletes don't automatically excel at the next level. That does not mean any of these examples were overhyped.
Great write-up. He seems to be a smart, talented, hard working dude. Gives honest interviews and seems very genuine. I'm not ashamed to be a Fisher fanboy.
Fisher also won two New Balance Indoor National mike titles.
Boom!
Mile titles
The Mike Title was Marshall Mathers, another fine Michigan lad.

Do you mean undeservedly overhyped, or just overhyped? 2 very different questions.
All of those have been overhyped, and all dominated in HS, but Young certainly seems to deserve it based on what he hi doing this year.
I will say - as a fairly new member to letsrun - that I find it dissappointing that a thread would be started with the specific intent of calling out kids who are still in high school.
Just my 2c

This is quite untrue. Drew was barely coached until his sophomore year of high school.

I find that hard to believe considering his parents pedigree.

Dathan ritzenhein is by far the most overrated highschool runner, and runner of any age, in American and world history.
He is just skinny kid who ran a few good xc races and is slower than Webb in every single distance.
Oh ya, and just like many others, he retired at a young age. Although he probably should have never went pro to begin with.
No clue who you are but you know zilch about running or probably much of anything else.
Dathan went 8:41-3200 and 13:44-5000. He won FL twice and ran 14:10 his senior year in cross country. He got the bronze from jr. cross country in Belgium.
He beat Webb quite handily in both of this FL victories.
Over-hyped? Dathan? You are a complete moron.
and oh yeah, he did nothing since high school, zero. Oh wait...? He made the Olympic team in the 10,000 and the marathon. Ran 8:11 for 2 miles and 12:56 for 5000.
how did this site let people like this 4:30 guy post garbage posts that are complete lies?
