Where are all these Kenyans coming from?
Where are all these Kenyans coming from?
I always liked the one with the hypothetical 800 meters with the grizzly bear.
I just read the Fanny Packs in a Race thread. I'm crying with that post:

2. The Kip Litton sleuthing thread, esp finding out the West Wyoming marathon was purely fictional.
While every pundit on here was musing this, pontificating that while occasionally getting into the photo evidence, I locked onto the West Wyoming thing. Wrote the Jackson Hole newspaper sports editor & asked if there'd been a marathon there in early July. One thing led to another & I confronted Dr Litton with my findings. He assured me the race took place but only he showed up. He said 'a friend' made up the names, times, home cities etc for the other 30 or so finishers. This from a well-to-do dentist who I'd quizzed and punched holes in many of his other finish time explanations. While I was unafraid to look into his untidy affair, I frankly wanted no part of him. I can't relate and his serial cheating made no sense, only serving to make a mockery of himself - and he didn't give a rats ass. He denied cheating to the end. All of them do.
100 miles, 100 beers. Several others have gone but I think the original was around a decade ago. Was big reason I got hooked coming back every day to check in on him. Death before dishonor!
the 2 miles every hour for 24 hours thread was awesome.
the "5 x 60m w/ full recovery" thread is golden.
the high ledge running cult thread that is going on right now is weird but I'm hooked.
An underrated thread is the one where rojo discovered the raccoon living under his porch. If I remember correctly, he became a licensed trapper by the end of the thread.

Any post by DFF was lively, offensive, and less than conciliatory.
I forget......did the plane takeoff??
The thread where the guy counts trees—1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 14
5x20 mile workout
Great list of epic threads. I also liked the one that asked what kind of threads would there be if LRC was around during the American Revolution--some truly hilarious replies!
General hilarity:
-Breaking up with my GF via PowerPoint (I don’t think this has been mentioned yet?!?)
-Gobble gobble, MFers (the original Turkey Trot post)
-The steak place/pooping story
-100 beers, 100 miles, death before dishonor (I can’t believe this wasn’t mentioned until this page of this thread!)
-Airplane/treadmill take-off thread
-5 x 18 marathon workout thread with the surreal post about the trees (if anyone can dig this up I will be eternally grateful)
Dishonorable mention #1:
-The story about the sad masters runner guy losing to a Kenyan woman and pounding his fist on the table while yelling about how he’s going to destroy her next year (it’s just not funny)
Quality content:
-Sub-1:50 800m training
-The Quest for Amateur Glory sub-2:30 marathon thread
-The road racing/training weekly thread
-Any thread with major insights from Canova
-The list of all message-boarders’ PRs from back in the day
-The thread that links to all of the other quality training threads (that used to be pinned at the top of the forum)
One I don’t know the origin of and would love someone to explain:
-“Paulo knows where to find me” (I assume this was someone quitting the board in a huff, but don’t know who it was)
Memes:
-Keep it on the ‘crete
-Jason Rexing/Chuck Norris-style tall tales after his 13:55 in trainers
-Deer (whomever)
-Is (whomever) update?
-But did he/she/they look relaxed?
Dishonorable mention #2: (Whomever) goes home devastated or (Whomever) is back, baby! (both are, or were, beaten into the ground)
Actual real world news (mostly tragic/sad, but newsworthy):
-Cheating threads on Litton, Meza, Rossi, and the “running across the US” guy
-The NIKE suite/Capriotti/banned person thread
-Suzy Favor Hamilton escort story
-The whole Moen/treadmill WR/cat, pirate, gun girl/arrest situation
Dishonorable mention #3:
- the “real man” definition post (making fun of Flagpole was really bullying)
Inspirational real-world stuff:
-Eddy Lee/sub-4 1500m
-Big Wave’s downhill sub-4 mile (RIP David)
-Evan Schwartz training for CIM and OTQing
-cancer guy
Wow, for better or for worse (mostly worse, probably), I have spent a lot of my life on here.

Wait, are these NOT the same thread? I could’ve sworn they were, and it was an epic surrealist masterpiece. (I also thought it was 5x18 miles, not 20, but clearly my memory is t what it know was.)

The thread is long gone but this is the famous Pirate/Cat/Gun Girl. Wen the photo was first posted, some poster simply referred to her as Pirate/Cat/Gun Girl and the name stuck like glue.

Pretty sure it was a thread about some guy named Brandon Moen who was a runner/amateur photographer. Someone found his portfolio and p/c/g girl was one of the photos.
Moen wasn't the photographer, he was one of the models.
It was a website from some dude who took wrestling photos (not like from matches, but posed). It was pretty creepy.
There was a section for Felicia (PCG girl) too and I think she was a member of the photographer's family, I dunno.
I think the fame happened because the site was just incredibly weird. Then all the stuff that happened with Moen after that, it kinda immortalised the whole thing.

You are probably right. They were the same era for sure .

Yes, that definitely belongs on the list! Also, “discus . . .”
I have wanted to ask this for years. Where does the 'Pirate' come from?
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
