He’s #5. He’s #5, He’s #5!!!!
Win what? He won 10-11 times last year. A year in which there were no Championships.

alright, calm down Jakob....
In the context of being asked if he knew he took the meet record from El G...
Right you are, Budda. His 500meters: 1.10.25-1,12.10- 1.09.56 and the last 300: 40.07. And his last 500 equals the average speed for 3.28.68, which is exactly his personal record outdoors. The old Norwegian elite runner Arne Kvalheim thinks he will soon be ready for 3.26. Though, I have my doubts.

"I agree he'll probably get some record. I am pretty confident it will not be the outdoor 5000 record -- I think that's beyond him. He has a better shot at El G's 3:26 insofar as marquee distances outdoors are concerned, but I could definitely see him falling short of that. 4 seconds is a lot to improve for anyone, and requires some pretty special conditions. I don't give him better than a coinflip at it but he as a legitimate chance."

Birdbeard, Do your homework! Jakob is less than 3 seconds away from El-Guerrouj´s 3:26 WR
Remember: Jakob´s 2020 PB was 3:28.68
I copy a post I send in another thread:
"I agree that Jakob must be in shape for an indoor WR time in the 1500m. I also agree that he possibly is much more focused on the outdoor season.
But this indoor PB gives him a good indication on his progression.
It looks like he is again one level up from the previous season.
He didn´t run indoors in 2020 due to an injury but in 2019 her ran 3:36 indoors in the 1500m breaking Tefera´s indoor U20 WR.
If he can also improve his 2019 outdoor PB in the 1500m (3.30) with more than 4 seconds this year he will break El-Guerrouj´s WR."
Does anyone have a YouTube (or other) link for the race?
Apologies. I thought he ran 3:29.XX in Monaco last year, forgot it was 3:28.XX.
So 3 seconds (rounding). Still a ton for anyone to improve at that level. Jakob ran that at 19/20--for reference, most of the guys ahead of him did improve more than 2.7 seconds from age 20 to their PR (generally around 5s), but most of them didn't train seriously until shortly before 19/20, and didn't run in their first global type event until around 19/20 -- Jakob has been at it a bit longer. I think it's still less than coinflip. Noah Ngeny ran his PR @ 19 and never ran faster in the 1500/mile.
Very impressive. What a great runner.
World record coming. Amazing that a Norwegian will be faster than every East African ever.
ElG is not East African, but your point still stands:) How many of the EAs were doppers?
Kiprop? Others

Depends on who you ask.

Stop it with your inferiority complex.
I think you might mean "err on the side"
'Your' welcome
Do you realize that if you set a word record, you are faster than everyone? He will be faster than East Africans and Europeans and Americans and Asians and everyone else.

Fat chance boss man. Speeds fully gone nowadays. Need me some of dat Micky speed, from tha man himself, Micky Salty, quick time. Proper one pace pony me nowadays mucker, got any magic potions for me, Micky lad?
Why do people have to put "MF" in the title so many threads? It is so juvenile and annoying.

Strange way to rounding birdbeard.
I think many will agree that Jakob (and Timothy) would have broken 3:28 last year in Monaco if pacemaker (Timothy Sein) has not screwed it up. Jakob ran more than 1100m alone and Timothy was forced to run the first rounds at a suicidal pace. So Jakob (and Timothy) were probably less than 2 seconds from the WR last season.
The guys ahead of Jakob (on the 1500m alltime list):
Jakob ran his PB 3:28.68 at 19 so it seems relevant to see how much the runners ahead of him improved from 19 to PB.
El-Guerrouj 7.61 seconds (from 19 to 23)
Lagat 11.5 (from 21 to 26)
Kiprop 5 (from 19 to 26)
Morceli 10.5 (from 19 to 25)
Kiplagat 11.5 (from 19 to 24)
Ngeny 2 (from 19 to 21)
Timothy 6.5 so far! (from 19 to 22)
That makes an average improvement on almost 8 seconds!
They all started running seriously in their early to mid teens. Ngeny, however, first at 17 but he came from volleyball which is probably a good preparation for a 800/ 1500m runner. And Kiplagat started seriously at 18.
Noah Ngeny ran his PB in the 1500m at 21 and not at 19! Ngeny had a severe car accident at 22. That might be why he never improved further.
Jakob can´t improve much due to early running start:
This has been postulated on these pages almost from Jakob appeared as a 14 years old running below 3:50 in the 1500m.
But as I have argued before in other threads;
People don´t seem to understand the basis of Jakob´s high performances. Jakob is relying almost entirely on his high AEROBIC CAPACITY. And this aerobic capacity can be improved year after year for a long time.
Otherwise Gebrselassie, Bekele, Mo Farah and Kipchoke would not be able to set PBs on the marathon in their thirties (The marathon time is almost 100% determined by the aerobic capacity).
So as long as Jakob sticks to his long term mainly aerobic training he will be able to put new layers on his aerobic foundation year after year improving his times accordingly.
And as long as he is still maturing physically he will add improved speed and physical strength to his endurance improvement.
Barring injury and illness I think Jakob will break the current WR this years or the next.

He dropped his PR well over one second last year at the age of 19. nearly 1.5 secs I think
Has to find @ 2.7 seconds to get the WR.
Possible. Odds? 50/50
90% that he gets it.
Honest you are mad if you don't pay attention to this worton lad. The streets are talking and he also climbs up and down stairs a lot in his day job so gets extra training in even when he is resting. If Trafford BMC is on this year I'm backing worton to go sub 3:38 first time out .
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
