Can’t stop laughing of the pathetic attempts to paint this indoor track as some kind of middle school gym.

He would run 7:35 on a decent track at sea level.

?? that’s just what they sound like

Ha nice try.
Seriously though he's really good. Consistently great. Ton's of all-american finishes. How many is he at now, 5 first team all-american finishes? Consistently in the mix his entire career.
But so far the knock on him would be that he hasn't been able to beat the top dogs in the NCAA. He's close, but hasn't quite been able to keep up with Kemboi, Fisher, McDonald and now Grijalva.
It would be awesome to see him find that next level over the next year.
I think he is legit and he ran well but thought the conversion brought his time down too much.
Still, the conversions are useful in a different context as they do help to accurately predict athletic capabilities. His 7:58 is what should be counted in the rankings and he should try to run the predicted time at sea level.

Me too. It's so, so funny.
But let's be realistic. Compared to other tracks of similar length (e.g. Dempsey), the BYU track is pathetic.

It's not as fast as the fastest indoor track in the country, correct.

And it's just so, so funny the posters speculating what 7:58 translates to on the fastest tracks in the country. Just totally unreasonable, my sides hurt.

No, it’s funny that you are making it sound impossible to run 64s on a 320ish m track with tighter turns than other 320m tracks with anything but a brand new resurfacing.
It is a fast track for distance races other than being at altitude. Excuses = funny.

Mantz just did it, so who's making it sound impossible? I think we're all impressed, so who's making excuses? Perhaps you should reread what's been written. Bad troll = Sad!
Keep telling yourself it's a "junk track" as another poster wrote. It won't hurt your credibility at all.
He could even probably do 7:30 at BU
This is such a high quality track. You can see the lines follow the contour of every dip and rise of the floor. I wonder if Dempsey has considered adding speed holes to their design.

Nah, no way. More like 7:45. Provo is not like parts of Denver 1000’ higher, and, even then, 7:35 would be too generous. Sub-7:45 would be a good goal. But, considering this effort came during his buildup after injury, it’s really good.
Also, I worry that he’s overdoing it again. I mean, a 10+ mile “cool down.”

His knees are too far inward. He runs sort of with his legs (most noticeably his knees) crossing diagonally infront of his body, instead of moving straight forward and back. This causes a lot of extra stress on his knees and in sorrounding muscles that have to overcompensate for the inefficiency in his form.
The kid has a huge motor and a lot of talent, but his form isn't great. Some times form can be improved, sometimes it can't. Anyone have any idea what would cause him to do that? And can it be corrected in the weight room or somewhere else?
