He just solo an a 7:58 3k on BYU’s indoor track. The conversion alone is like a 7:46 not even counting how slow that track is.
The byu xc team with Connor and clinger may be unbeatable.

Could be, but the XC race is considerably longer than 3K IIRC.

Mantz has always been, and will always be, a better 10k runner than 3k runner. If his 3k is this strong, his 10k will be untouchable.

Why do you say this? I'd say he has the make for a 3k runner considering how aggressive he likes to race.
7:58 on that junk track is absolutely flying.
Any other results from the mile or 3k worth noting?
7:58? Meh.
Isn't this a 500 meter track?
TFRSS website says Mantz's 7:58.03 coverts to 7:47.50
Aiden Troutner of BYU ran a 8:10:19 coverts to 7:58.40!! Hasn't been back from mission for very long (last August I think).
BYUs's Garnica, Shumway, and Erickson ran well too.
Not sure what is going on with Clinger. The track there is 5-laps for a mile. 352-yds or about 322-m.

No, it's a 352 yard (321.5 meter), 5 lap per mile, 4 lane, Mondo Super X track. Five laps plus a little bit. I kind of forget. It was a long time ago running on it and the surface was fine for training but not massively fast. Probably been resurfaced since I was last there many moons ago.

Great news for Mantz. Especially because he's just coming off an injury. He didn't run from mid October to after Thanksgiving.
Troutner's 8:10 is very good news for BYU. That is incredible for 8 or 9 months post mission.

And the turns are very tight and unbanked. I remember the surface being pretty uneven. This was 12 years ago, but I'd be surprised if they've resurfaced it since then.

Yes, the turns are quite tight for such a large track. The surface was uneven and you notice it more when in spikes. Do they still have that greasy spoon snack bar under the stands by the east turn? Hate it when we are doing intervals and someone steps out onto lane one from the snack bar without looking. This was 37 years ago so maybe it's changed since then.

Look at about 9:34-9:45 in the workout video linked above. What do you see in Mantz's form that would cause him to be injury prone? It shouldn't take long to spot it. His knees are too far inward. He runs sort of with his legs (most noticeably his knees) crossing diagonally infront of his body, instead of moving straight forward and back. This causes a lot of extra stress on his knees and in sorrounding muscles that have to overcompensate for the inefficiency in his form.
The kid has a huge motor and a lot of talent, but his form isn't great. Some times form can be improved, sometimes it can't. Anyone have any idea what would cause him to do that? And can it be corrected in the weight room or somewhere else?
Unbeatable? Cut back to a couple months ago when NAU absolutely RAILED BYU with Conner and Clinger both in the top 4.
Your thread title needs to be changed. You cannot use words that imply violence. You should say "Conner Mantz ran fast for a 3K."
Actually, that might offend slow people. Maybe say, "Conner Mantz performed satisfactorily in a 3K."
Wait, you can't use 3K either. That implies 3 K's, which would reference the Klan. Using 3K clearly means that you are a raging racist and white supremacist. You need to say, "Conner Mantz performed satisfactorily in a 3 kilometer race."
And finally, his surname is clearly sexist. Your thread title should have said, ""Conner (Wo)Mantz performed satisfactorily in a 3 kilometer race."
You're welcome.

The race at OSU was very close if you scored Claysom Shumway, who ran unattached. If I remember correctly it was NAU by one or two points. Very close race. NAU will definitely be favored in March. But BYU is very good with Mantz, Clinger, Shumway, Troutner. Depth could be the big issue for BYU this year, but they are absolutely within striking distance of NAU.
I cannot believe that you would use such an insensitive term such as 'satisfactorily' as that is CLEARLY a judgement statement. Who are you to judge?? Perhaps it would be most suitable to say 'Conor (wo)Mantz ran'. Hmmm...that might be offensive to someone who accidentally stumbled upon Letsrun.com and is from a sport that considers running their punishment, and not an enjoyable activity. Wow, the fact that what I said could be offensive actually offends me that I would say something offensive Who am I to say something offensive...oh my. All this political correctness is giving me a headache. I think I need to exit my living quarters to participate in an outdoor activity that enables me to raise my heart rate above my resting pulse.
We gotta get this guy and put him in jail where he belongs. Anyone know what the minimum sentence for killing a 3k is? Hopefully a lot of years
