Democrats are gonna enact sweeping socialism - Like say a $3T bill where 2/3 went straight to Wall Street? Or do you mean like record deficits for each year Trump was President and Republicans controlled the Senate while the stock market boomed and wages were stagnant? Republicans just have a different idea of how to enact socialism. It is Corporate Welfare, military spending, government contracts to private companies, and corporate protectionism. Democrats lean more to social programs for individuals. Both are poorly run if they result in massive deficits every year even in the boom times. Unfortunately, both are controlled by big money and do not do the will of the people. That is why people are mad and polarized.
This election was a predictable result. Trump had an approval rating below 40% and has been an incredibly polarizing figure. Yet after losing GA, he went down there and demanded loyalty and spouted the conspiracy theories and hate that had caused him to lose. The Republican Senators did not want to fully embrace the guy who lost in Nov because, well, he lost and they wanted to win. But the Trumpers saw that as disloyal and they want absolute rule by their demagogue so they withheld some of their votes in a very close state.
It is probably a better situation for both parties to have control between Prez, House, Senate because it theoretically should lead to centrist compromise. However, with Trump and McConnell, that has not been the case. They have stonewalled any input from Democrats even on things that affect all Americans. Democrats have done the same in the past. That is not fair to the American people who are split roughly 50/50 Dem/Rep. We have to get back to a level of compromise and get rid of this Us vs. Them mentality.
Winning an election by 1% is not a referendum to go hard core left or right. It is a demand by the people to be in the middle. We should want boring government that runs pretty much down the middle and let the fringe people be somewhat dissatisfied while the vast majority are content.
