Obesity is a choice for all but the smallest percentage. Even in that context, metabolic issues within that smallest of percentages cannot result in morbid obesity without excessive caloric intake.

Funny how SCIENCE is becoming the new religion. I guess that’s what happens when 50% of the population has an IQ below 100.
Proper nutritional and exercise needs are already well known. Obesity is caused by people unable to control themselves: mental disorders. Put those people in slave labor camps. Force them to exercise and eat properly. The rest will fall in line to avoid fat prison. Problem solved.
Actually I believe science (technology) will continue to make us fatter. I live in Amish country and have never seen a fat Amish person. They eat natural foods and are forced to be activity because they deny technology. Also they are known to have an incredibly low cancer rate.
Instead we have chemically induced foods and don’t even have to walk around a grocery store anymore for goodness sakes. We sit on our screens and tap what we want to have it delivered to our front door.
They aren’t riding tractors but walking behind a horse plow. The kids don’t take the bus or ride a car to school but bike or scooter.
East Africans in the rural altitudes live a similar non tech lifestyle. A big reason why they destroy America in distance running.
The movie WALL-E is an unfortunate scientific future.

Science is not technology!

50% population has IQ below 100. Those people don’t understand the difference. How else could Al Gore have assumed that he invented the internet.
I disagree with OP. While I accept that such a future may be possible, I've seen no reason to believe it would happen any time soon. We may see some pills that will 'assist' with weight loss in the near future, but a pill that guarantees healthy weight even if you stuff your face with chocolate cake daily? If that ever exists, I'll have died of old age long beforehand.

If medication properly regulates your appetite or taste buds, then people wouldn't stuff their faces with chocolate cake daily

so that's where our distance running talents are hiding.
Well fit and lean...maybe lean but not fit like an advanced appetite suppression pill.

Impending economic collapse will cure the obesity epidemic. There are very few fat people in Venezuela.
You picked the wrong country. Try North Korea instead.
https://www.indexmundi.com/venezuela/obesity_adult_prevalence_rate.htmlAbsolutely not. There are no alternatives that replace working out and eating well. Medications can treat things, and perhaps we will get better at preventing issues as we understand the genome. However, you have to think about how medications works. Normally, there is an active ingredient that targets a biochemical pathway. How would a medication recapitulate exercise? It would have to target hella pathways. At that point, you are likely to get some gnarly and unforeseen side effects. People think a magic pill exists for disease. This is an extremely rare occurrence, perhaps penicillin prior to abx resistance was close. There would be no point in replacing exercise with a medication if it had poor side effects (it wouldn't get through trials or approved).
Our real problems are with shortening telomeres. Target that and maybe you can preserve youthfulness and thus preserve the ability to be fit.
Hydroxycut was a big step in this direction. What most ppl dont understand is that those pills are not an entire replacement for exercise. It does seem Americans attitude towards exercize is not improving any.
Good question amigo.
I started loosing my hair at 19 and was bald at 23. When my son was born I thought that science would be able to cure baldness before it affected him. Now he is 27 and bald. Maybe my Grandson will not have to worry about it, but don’t put too much faith in science.

No. That's ridiculous. Fitness is a combination of metabolism and movement. Obese people don't live the same lifestyle as lean people.
Over simplistic.
There are lots of things that make it difficult to lose weight. You can exercise like hell and eat frugally and increase weight.
When I was racing I weighed 40 pounds less. I now do way more endurance work, don't drink beer at all, eat less, and can't drop a pound.
A huge portion of the population is overweight and nearly all people have a desire to fit the social standards of being good looking so it's safe to say there would be a massive amount of money in this medication if it were to exist. If humans can find a way it will happen I am guessing it will
bump
Um, have you ever heard of cocaine?
Only in the West do people workout voluntarily and are still unhealthy and overweight. Ever notice the guts on and general poor body composition on guys at the gym?
Science has found a way already. The obese are just too weak willed to do it.
