Long stride spending too much time on the ground versus short stride spending less time on the ground versus long stride spending small amount of time on the ground.
Jesse Owen, Michael Johnson and Herschel Walker were all relatively short striding 100 metre guys. I know Owen's hand timed 10.3 100m is the slowest but Owens sprinted on cinder in cement boots (heavy leather shoes). Both Owens and Walker were part-time sprinters and full-time Am. football players. I believe all three were relatively equal 100m guys. The limitation of short striding 100m with quick steps was demonsrated by these three men.
Sprint with long stride landing mid-foot or balls of feet is the proper answer.
