He's stated this is his goal. Will he? I think if the weather holds, given the field and the fast course, I think he can run 27:15.
Is LetsRun, the leading running website, covering this event or too busy with NFL, Covid-related threads, politics, banning contributors for no reason, or talking about being asked "what high school did you attend?"
Will PAUL CHELIMO get the American 10K record on Thursday?

Galen Rupp ran 26:44 in Eugene..............

Rupp has the 10,000 meter record.

I'm definitely confused about posing the question about the AR and then suggesting he'll run 30+ slower, but I agree with your actual prediction -- he won't get anywhere near the AR, and I think 27:15 would be quite a run for him. I think the range is maybe 27:00 - 27:40. I'll go 27:23. -
Why don't you provide the details and a link?
-
The 10k record is for the roads, which he is racing on the 31st. Rupp holds the 10,000 meter record on the track.
The 10k record is listed still as Marc Nenow's 27:23.
Will LetsRun actually be covering this race? -

AR at 10k is like 27:23
AR at 10,000m is 26:44
Hope that clears it up. I assume Chelimo is doing some 10k and not a 10,000m. Probably some midnight fun run.. -
No he won't get it. Nenow has held the record since 1985, and I think he'll hold it for at least a few more years. Is it the oldest US distance record?
-
Robert is likely spot on. Tough record to eclipse. I think Chelimo can and the field will be strong.
I'd post more info but I'd probably get banned by the mods, since they tend to ban quality posters when they post running related news.
Anyway, I'm actually NOT surprised that the owners and Gault aren't up to date on things. They tend to be the fifth wheel too often.
Oh well, let's see if Chelimo can back up his goal. -

Even more confusing
"Chelimo’s main aim in Madrid will be to break the US 10km record of 27:48, co-held by Bernard Lagat and Mark Nenow. The continental record of 27:41, held by Mexico’s Arturo Barrios, could also be within his sights." -
I don't know the course, but I think Chelimo would be doing pretty well to run 27:15 on a track, I doubt he can run that on the roads. I realize his 5,000 PR is equivalent to around 27 flat on the track, but that's at peak performance at the Olympics, and he had only approached that level again once or twice. I doubt he's ready for something that big right now at the end of December. My guess is around 28 flat fading to the finish.

No. Salazar 8km and Klecker 50mi are older. -

Probably some point to point type stuff. disqualifies Nenows faster run. -

I wonder if women over 10k and men over 5k is still taking place later today in Bolzano, Italy? Muktar Edris, Telahun Bekele, Y.Crippa, and Albert Chemutai in the men's. Margaret Chelimo Kipkenboi, Dorcas Tuitoek, Norah Jeruto, and Gloriah Kite in the women's.

I would imagine that Muktar and Dorcas would have been hard to beat? -

In Bolzano, Oscar Chelimo won in 13:18. Robim Hendrix 2nd in 13:19, a Belgian NR and just 1 second off Gressier's European Record. Muktar Edris fell away badly in the last kilometre.
Margaret Kipkemboi won the 10k in 30:42, a second or two ahead of Tuitoek.
