Forced to wear a mask while participating in a high aerobic sport. Runner goes down on a road run, hits head. Who's liable here? State I coach in attempted this. Lasted less than 24 hours. Full season of dual meets, and post season inc. district, regional and state finals. Not one case of COVID amongst any xc teams.
You’re telling me that you know for certain there was not a single case of Covid among runners in your entire state. Sure. Why not.

Same thing in MD with Howard County strides and bullseye timing. Coached and ran their kids in meets when told not to do so and will be gone after 1st of year. They're hs coaches that ran a timing company. And thought they could sneak one. Over. On people. Good. Bye coaches good bye timing. Company
Hold up...he held these meets *at county schools* Surely he didn't just show up and use the track? On like 6 different occasions. Somebody blessed this. And now their acting dismayed?
Plus there was soccer and/or LAX going on the infield at every one of those meets I attended.

Stay in your basement weenie boy. Just because you want to destroy kid’s lives for your virtue signaling, it still doesn’t make XC running dangerous.

I don't know what state he coaches in, but a quick Google search seems to indicate a roughly 0% global covid fatality rate among healthy high school athletes. We should focus our efforts on protecting the vulnerable. I recommend that the very elderly, the morbidly obese, and those with serious medical issues not attend high school track practice.
I suspect that the Hunters are not doing a lot of laughing at the moment, but I suspect this comment will make them chuckle!
What is more likely; a kid contracts COVID from an outdoor practice or competition, or a kid's breathing becomes compromised because they are wearing a mask and passes out? falls? hyperventilates? etc. I think the latter and I think this is the crux of the Hunter's concerns.

To address this, and other recent posts, the concern is not so much a kid getting infected and becoming ill. The concern is getting infected, remaining asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic, and passing the virus along to someone who then becomes seriously ill and requires hospitalization, etc. People who say we should focus on protecting the more vulnerable miss the point - ensuring everyone (whether or not they themselves are at risk of serious illness) follows public health measures is how you prevent transmission and how you avoid giving the virus a free-fire zone to circulate and develop different strains as we are now seeing in the UK.
To address the point about hyperventilating and passing out, etc. That's bologna. I grew up in a very cold northern state and would routinely run in excess of ninety minutes with a fleece gaiter on the entire time. I now wear a N95 at work for periods in excess of 24 hours consecutively. There is absolutely no evidence that wearing a mask is associated with hypoxia, passing out, etc even when the wearer is exerting themselves.
Exactly. There is also evidence that a high % of young people that get coronavirus come down with heart issues that may last long term. I think cardiovascular health is important for distance runners, right?
It's atrocious that the Hunters would rather sacrifice people's health and safety for the opportunity to have a couple races.

No. Are the Hunters doctors? The medical organizations and governing bodies made a decision to keep people as safe as possible, it takes a true piece of **** to disobey and protest that decision.
This crisis is real. 300,000 Americans DIED. And the Hunters rage quit because they don't want people to wear masks and social distance? High school sports in VA is not more important than losing the lives of 300,000 people.

Masks
10 feet
Temperature checks
written questionnaires
Probably couldn't afford to test the kids every day.
I would have told them to shove it also.
Well their girls team finished the cross country season 7th in the nation and there was no high school season.
They are being supported by the whole team and their families. The AD is also supporting the Hunters which can be dangerous. In the LCPS they only like YES men. In all honesty if coaches in the county are putting their kids in masks I question whether they truly care for their athletes. Follow the money.
Be a better coach and maybe you will get some transfers.

They probably didn't get enough transfers this year and this is a good excuse to quit.
Is Western Albemarle the new go-to boys team in Virginia to transfer to, considering they finished higher at NXN than Loudoun Valley? ?
Amen. There maybe 3 or 4 quality running programs out of 18 high schools. Ashburn high schools are a disaster.
Stay in your house. Actually don’t leave your bed. You may trip and fall and hit your head and die alone. Be careful out there. Also please don’t consume food with no one to help you in case you choke on your food. Stay safe.
