So I ran a road race today, and warming up, my stomach just felt heavy from a late dinner the night before. It just didn't digest well for some reason. So I figured it'd be better to race without any hindrances and stuck the 'ole fingers down the throat and actually barfed quite a bit of solid mass up, which I definitely didn't want in my stomach running hard. I didn't have a very good race, but I think it was much more because of a gutless (no punn intended) performance than anything physiological. My questions is if actually inducing the vomit might normally hurt me in any way? I already had a lot of water down and was pissing pretty clear, so I don't think it dehydrated me. I even put some more water down afterward to wash out the taste and stomach acid from my throat. But does anyone think there are any ill effects caused by the stomach contractions or stomach acid up your throat? Is it something I should avoid in the future unless absolutely necessary (like today probably was) or do you guys think it was pretty harmless? Not that I plan on barfing before every race, it's not something I enjoy, but was sure better than getting cramps a third of the way through though, unless there are some serious detrimental effects that I didn't consider.
