I beleive Michael Greene's national record in the 500 (not run very often in HS) is a soft 102.40

Sure to be pounched on, but what about Dennis Simonitas from Xaverian (13:50, 28:40ish, 2:14,) and now a great master.
John Clopeck from Framingham and BC was also quite a stud.
Ron Wayne NE HS Champ and NE Collegiate Champ
Stetson Arnold X-C AA @ PC/UMass
Art Dulong/Alberto Salazar are the BEST distance runners EVER from Mass. No dispute!!!
Dulong had the potential - but he did not make any international squads, did he? He never broke 4:00 for the mile, never ran under 13:40 for 5k, etc.. Dan Dillon beat him at the state meet in cross country, if I remember right. Eddie Norris beat him over 2 miles as a senior at the state meet.
That said, no one has to convince me as to his incredible ability. What should he have run? That guy could have challenged 13:10 for 5k for sure. He was a STUD. In high school he ran 4:04 - last 400 in 55. He was a victim of poor coaching in college and once he left college, he went to work and that was that.
No question. The tug boat captain of the year. Captain Jack once claimed Nephi would storm troop the decks, get stripped by the ropes.
The fastest MA, Hello Fairhaven, Stormin' through supermans swimming pool crazy old times, gettin' beat up on the golf course with obscene gestures and all that demise... the demise of a great god fearin'... nobody feared him, everybody feared the fastest bearded "sandy haired character" to light up the red tarmac before take off..
Nephi Tyler breathing behind me, step by step meter by meter. 300 out, If you hadn't seen him yet, you're in pain and trouble.
Nephi Tyler
Yeah, you're absolutely right. I got my wires crossed on that.
Haven't college coaches been fired over being less than accurate in the bio? I thought that the Notre Dame football coach 2 years ago was fired because of a similar thing.

Fitchburg Fats was a great runner. No question. Why the inflated resume? Certainly he's read the BC site?
The term "ethical" and BC will never be mentioned in the same sentence, regardless of sport.

Forgot Bill Crowley - Seekonk, then Stanford, 3:40.XX
rosie ruiz was quite good and efficient.
I would rank the top Massachusetts athletes another way:
1. John Thomas, silver and bronze Olympic medals, multiple world records, many NCAA and US titles.
2. Lynne Jennings, bronze Olympic medal, multiple world cross country titles, many US titles.
3. Alberto Salazar, wins at Boston and NY marathons, highly ranked on world level at 10K.
4. Charlie Jenkins, Olympic Gold medal ('56 400 meters)
5. Calvin Davis, NCAA titles, Olympic bronze medal.
...and so forth.

That is my vote. Jennings,4:18 1500m Junior year, 4:39 mile in an age when we did not have all these fancy tracks and indoor facilities. Most girls back then were not encouraged to play sports, but to dance or cheerlead. So.. one vote Jennings one vote Lambie.
Dennis is my vote for best Master runner to come out of Mass.

Omar Simmons from Boston Tech - ran 1:50. and then ran 1:47.41 for Princeton - he was nasty!
I was at the New Englands watching him win with that 1:50+. Dude had the longest friggin arms I've ever seen. It was almost unfair to the rest of the field because he was flirting with quadripedalism.
