All this hipe about shoes is ABSOLUTELY a nonsense. IS NOTHING BUT A MARKETING THING.
Lets take the adidads adios pro. It was launched but in very limited numbers. So now is out of stock everywhere and you can find it only on Ebay at prices range from 300$ to 1000$ or more.
WHY ADIDAS DID LIKE THIS? Simply to create more hype and also because they didnt know if the shoes WORKED WELL. What does it means this? Now we have a HM WR destroyed by 29sec and this is enough to make all runners all over the world to want to buy the shoes and sure now adidas will put it on the market again.Amateurs runners all over the world always look at Elite Runners and what shoes they wear , what shoes they have when WR has been broken..
In the past for the average amateurs ( 2:30- 3:00 or more in marathon) it was almost impossible to wear the Elite runners marathon shoes cos they didnt give the cushioning and the protection needed for runners that are not 50kg and fast as 3'/km, but are heavier and slower.
The revolution arrive with all vaporfly nike project where for the first time a shoes weared by the best runners in the world has the cushioning needed to run a marathon or a half by amateur runners that in general are heavier and slower than Top elite runners
The Vaporfly was designed with the help of kenyans runner like Eliud Kipchoge.
WHY ALL THAT CUSHIONING IF BEFORE THE RULE WAS TO BE AS FLAT AS POSSIBLE?
I have one theory. Kenyans runners always run on red sand surface that is more soft than tarmac road. This is the opposite for example of Japanes runners. Running on dirt of course is a very good thing to have less schock , and to preserve tendons and ligaments.
But the road race are on asphalt that is of course a tough surface than red sand
I think that Eliud while working on the vaporfly project made actually the request to have a shoes that gave him the sensations to run on soft red sand and not on tough asphalt.I mean running 180km/200km a week on red sand make your muscles , tendons and ligaments used to that soft surface so of course when you have to run a marathon on tough asphalt surface with a flat shoes like a Nike Zoom Strike is normal that you have discomfort.
I think that Eliud while working on the vaporfly project made actually the request to have a shoes that gave him the sensations to run on soft red sand and not on tough asphalt
THIS WE CAN TRANSLATE IN ONE THING : MORE CUSHIONING
THEN A CARBON PLATE WAS ADD TO COMPENSATE THE SOFTNESS AND THE CUSHIONING OF THE SHOES.
But these changes to create a shoe for top elite runners , made it weareable also by the average amateur runners that maybe have the dream to break the 3hours barrier in marathon.
Of cousre for Nike was a big jump, the price of their top shoes is now well over 200$, while before with THEIR ZOOM STRIKE( elite marathon shoes) IT WAS AT 80-90$, then we add to this a new generation of athletes that break world record everywhere in road races and so we can understand all this sucess.
Just look what happened to ALPHAFLY. After Vienna Kipchoge 1:59 it seemed that Alphafly was the new best shoes for Nike but then London Marathon 2020 with the defeat of Eliud Kipchoge by guys that were wearing the Next% basically has stopped the Alphafly. But again probably it was a Marketing thing to push forward the Next% and push back the Alphafly.
If Eliud with better conditions had lowered his marathon WR in London 2020 wearing the Alphafly probably now things for Alphafly future market would be different
Probably it was something that was very intelligently studied by Nike . I mean create Top elite runner shoes
that also amateur runners (more cushioning) can wear.
After reading the article and seeing the x-ray in correlation with the human foot, it seems to me the Adidas is copying how the human foot works, and God designed that. So.....
Agree that the naming is f-ed up and confusing but the Adidas store features both shoes. In fact, the Adizero Pros are on sale or clearance ($110-$153, depending on the website).
With Adidas' 40% sale online a few days ago, the black/green Adizero Pros could be had for less than $100.
The carbon rod Adizero Adios Pros, on the other hand, remain $200.
I have run in the Vaporfly (original) and the Vaporfly (Next%) and the Adidas Adios Pro.
It's all a matter of personal opinion but the Adios Pro worked MUCH better for me. I didn't really think the Nikes made me any faster and they didn't fit me all that well. I even ended up with some tendonitis from the Vaporfly Next. The Adidas conformed to my foot perfectly and I ran a marathon in them with no problems. And I recovered in record time, too.
As for their other shoes. I love the Nike React foam, but they need to bring back their original react shoes (Epic React, Odyssey React). The Infinity and Miler are too clunky and aren't as fast-feeling as the originals. The Pegasus has a nice ride but doesn't conform to my foot - very clunky in my opinion. The React Miler is a good shoe, but it's nowhere near as great as the Epic/Odyssey.
As for Adidas, I am loving the SL20. It's got more pep and energy return than the Boston. I really loved the Adios 4, but the Adios 5 aren't as springy or as comfortable. So in order of preference (with 1 being the best)
1. Adios 4 (best for 5ks and short intervals)
2. SL 20 (best for tempo runs and half marathons)
3. Boston 8/9
4. Adios 5
I'd probably race a 10K - marathon in the Adios Pro, but continue to wear the regular adios in a 5K.
Agree, Nike boiz and employees trying to wreck this thread. Seems common knowledge adidas are one up with this shoes.
Good stuff. For me, it's a tie between Boston 7 and the older Adios.
Have you compared the Adizero Adios Pros with the Adizero Pros?

Of course they are, no doubt.
Adidas was on top of the running market from 2015-2019 and then lost that position to Nike for a year and a half. During that period so many fanboys have been talking sh** about Adidas and praising Nike in the most toxic way I have ever seen. They dont understand how top companies work.
Now they are eating their words and it feels so good.
Adidas was on top of the running market? What alternative universe are you living in??
