yeah... because being the world championship half marathon runner up = nobody
Didn't Kandie also beat Kamworor in Kenyan XC championships? I would imagine running 4 times under 59 minutes in a year would make your name known and get you a pretty high priority in the testing pool.
Kandie is far from being a nobody...
It was an incredible race and you have to be an incredible talent to beat Kiplimo and Rhonex today. One of the best races I've ever watched. The rivalry Kandie vs Kiplimo is great.
I wonder what will be the challenge of Kandie next year. He focused only on Half Marathon during 2020 but next year, there is no World Championship. Will he move to marathon? Maybe he should give a try on track, he has a terrible finish. He could be on the 10,000m at the Olympics.
Kandie Man!
ahhhhh-deeeeee-dahhhhhs
winner winner chicken dinner.
adidas
No Fun, my babe No Fun Iggy and the Stooges sing. This is not about " Super shoes" . With Covid 19 everybody got more freedom( yes is a paradox) ...... do you know what I mean ...... Sad day for a sport that has lost all of his credibility
This is not what I was expecting to wake up to. Short course? It's still hard for me to believe "its the shoes" alone...well, I'm sure it's not just that ...

If you think Kandie is a nobody then you are either extremely salty or completely ignorant about the sport.
Interesting to see adidas take 1st and 3rd.
What made all the difference, in my opinion, is that there was a big group at 15k and then a couple of attempts to break it, starting with Mutiso.
They were just 5 or 6 seconds behind Kamworor's record at 15k and they had Valencia weather and a slightly downhill finish - and each other. Kamworor was on his own.

+1 great post.
That LRC recap was way too negative & hyperfocused on the shoes instead of the rivalry at play here and what his future prospects are. Ya'll make it hard to be fans of the sport when you complain so much. Try some optimism -- it's more enjoyable for fans.
Yes, I agree. Jesus god the new shoe design has been out for what, 5 years now, and everyone from the elites to middle school 5k runners are wearing them.
World records are not set by shoes, anymore than winning the Tour de France by some special bicycle. There are new training methods, more faster runners, and more money.
How much of a role doping plays in these records I don’t know, but I do know the shoes aren’t setting records.
57:32 is equivalent to a sub 1:40 800, sub 26 10k and sub 2 hour marathon. This is the greatest distance performance we have ever seen. Do I think the shoes are a major catalyst of this? Absolutely
Well........a fantastic record! And it`s equal to 2.43,6 min / km or 27:16 /10 k !
It means that Kandie has the possibility to run a regular marathon in sub 2 hours!( 2 x 57:32 + 5 min = 2:00:04
If Kandie is clean? Only speculations as we know.........but if we analyzes his fast development last 2 years it will of course give speculations....

Agree....Vaporflys, Dragonflys (and others) are to elite racing what Pinnacle golf balls are to the PGA. So why not let pro golfers hit such golf balls?
Do the 4 runners who broke 58 min in the Valencia 1/2 marathon run between 58-59 without the unfair advantages that the shoes now offer? Possibly, and maybe slower. Same with the 4 who broke 2:04 in the Valencia marathon.
Many have seen this record spree before, back when records were repeatedly smashed in track and field (and roads) by those who were on PEDs.
Maybe Mary Decker Slaney has a perspective on these shoes and the impact on the sport. She was the lone threat to the Soviet-bloc training (PEDs), and was a heroine to many that watched her take on those women who could run incredible times.
If a shoe allows for faster running (better mechanics) that would occur barefoot on a grass track, then its unfair. I ran on some fast tracks (Univ of Florida in the early 80s was the fastest I know of), but I could have always run faster barefoot on grass.
Now, these runners are getting mechanics superior to what they are capable of barefoot on grass, so there is nothing else to say about their record times. I believe it was Nike wanting a marketing tool to increase already strong sales, and other shoe companies are following. Money, money, money, rather than any thought as to the damage to the integrity of the sport.
He is an Adidas runner.
Sounds like a short course ... if not WOOHOO
Some combo of short course, drugs, shoes, conditions, field.
This is more absurd than epic sprint races like the Eugene 13. Way more absurd.
Gee it just happens to be during a testing disruption and speed shoe introduction. Coincidence, right?
Riiiiiiight.
What kind of moron believes this shyte?
Coached by Joseph Cheromei, the same guy who coached Vincent Yator - banned for four years this April for doping.
Utter insanity indeed.
I think the last time 4 people broke a world record in the same race it was the Chinese women in the 3000 in 1993.
^^ the day Sonia O'Sullivan got robbed

Yep. This result basically killed all enthusiasm I have for the sport. The 10k and 5k world records going down on the track effortlessly was the start of the tipping point for me. This is a joke. Let’s not making the cheating so obvious guys
