Heel lifts are a good option. I’m going to give that a try. I think the NB 1400 could be my best option in a true racing shoe. Anyone here race in the 1400v6?
Thanks!

Great shoe! Didn't know they still produced them or I would of recommended them? Yeah, just saw them on RW!
They have a plastic plate in them but you don't really notice it. Heel cush is pretty nice, forefoot a little thin but the combo works well for heel strikers- like me. The revlite foam loses it's pop and compresses pretty quick, but new they are great.
Some people think it's a little too much shoe for a 5k, but I liked it. Works good on light trails too, but has a rock catcher hole if I remember right. Shoe Goo it if it bothers you.
I'm going to try that new Asics Hyper Speed when they come out. I need a little more up front anymore, and like the look of them. Good luck!
I think the problem is a lot of running shoes fit too snugly on the heel. I went up a half size last week and my trainers feel way better on my Achilles. I wonder if the runners who cut their heel could try a half size larger instead.
DougC,
Have you tried the 1400 yet?
Just saw this and figured i'd follow up. The past few years I have been using the 1400 for 5/10k. Its outsole rubber makes the shoe very versatile being great on packed gravel &/or dirt trails. Lately I go back&forth between it and the NB Rebel when i want to TurnUp.
Rebel if i want to to focus on more of a forefoot stride,
1400 if i want to use its additional drop to alleviate my calf muscles a bit.
