Anna Rohrer ran 15:29 a year after her 17:08 on the same course, for reference.
Nice run.

A great run by Sydney. Very dominating. But no, not 2nd fastest outside of FL. I count 11 that were above 168 and not connected to FL.

Which Tuohy? Certainly not the Tuohy of sophomore year, or junior year before she first hurt her knee. Even senior year she got to a 170 SR as I recall. Then she had one bad race at NXN, and still won. If she ran like that against those in this year's class, no she likely would not win.
Senior Tuohy. It would be close with earlier Tuohy. This class will demolish all existing track records. These girls are capable of going well under 9 minutes for 3k.
No but nice run anyway. SRs are more trustworthy when they are applied to established courses where you can get a better "par" number.
Going on SRs alone that means Hutchins is 1 and Thorvaldson is 2. But I'm not sure it means anything.
Stop trolling. Btw Brown is now in 3rd. The Senior Tuohy that ran at the US Club Championships a week after NXN was not losing to anyone in this class. But it is all speculation until you run a real race.

FWIW the speed ratings on the Lavern Gibson course for the last 5-6 years are very consistent with each other.
You obviously were not there yesterday to feel the wind or see how wet the course was. You can review the guys results to see that the 2 NAU male signees only beat her by 50 seconds and 30 seconds. Yes, absorb that. Tuohy was not racing within 30 seconds of the top male recruits. She would have run 16:15 in good conditions. She will run sub 9:30 for 2 miles on the track.
When Tuohy ran 17:02 at Bowdoin the best boys time was 16:13. The next time was 15 seconds slower.
I tend to trust this one more than others this year.
So wait. Now Brown and Thorvaldson are going to be breaking all sorts of track records? Ok. What happened to Hutchins btw? Or will all three being doing it? Cool.

I wouldn't put it past them to be completely honest. Tuohy was phenomenal and I still think at her prime that she had better fitness than some of the top girls this year. However, Hutchins has run 9:49 for 3200m and Brynn Brown ran 9:39 in a time trial. Sydney is likely in the same wheelhouse (she ran 10:01 for 2miles as a sophomore and is much stronger now compared to then). If all these girls raced against each other I can definitely see them attack Tuohy's 9:47 3200m outdoor record and possibly her 15:37 5000m indoor. All three of them have run at Brooks PR before so that could be a possibility during the track season for an attempt in the 3200m/2mile. For 5000m New Balance Nationals is likely the meet to give a crack at it.
That run from Sydney T. was epic. She is head and shoulders above everyone right now. She basically solo'd from the gun in the nastiest of conditions. I could not believe her time. Think about this... Mason Ferlic and Chelimo barely got under 24-min in similar (but better) conditions on that course... thick grass, massive winds. Sydney's shirt was blowing off her body the majority of the race and she just didn't slow down.
Unreal.
Pretty sure the male winner was 15:57 and that was only NY kids.

You are right, it was Sam Lawler who 2 weeks later ran 15:21 in Portland, barely 10 seconds behind Strangio/Sprout et al.

People do overlook that race and focus on NXN. But she did run 16:49 for 5K and then kept going for another K to finish in 20:11.

These statements are questionable at the best. Senior Tuohy had a bad day at NXN (and still won in case anyone forgot) but she still ran 165-170 speed ratings all season long and her performance at USATF Club Nats was very impressive (I speed rated the race through correlating track 3k/5k with speed ratings and got a 172, in an e-mail Bill agreed that seemed correct though he was unwilling to post something like that on his website). Sophomore/junior Tuohy would still demolish anyone from this class. Or did anybody forget her 16:06 XC 5k (on a course that's not even that fast)? Or her 16:45 at Bowdoin Park? Or possibly the greatest girls XC performance of all time, her 16:21 at Holmdel Park? There were multiple 9:20s guys that she beat that day, some even faster. Sean Dolan, a 4:05 miler, only ran 16:14 that day.
The second part of your statement is more than questionable, it's laughable. There is a reason that the high school girls' 3k records are 9:00 indoors and 8:58 outdoors. A 9:00 3k is a very strong college time, and the girls that set those records were ridiculously talented runners. Don't get me wrong, they're not untouchable (we'll get to untouchable records in a sec). But despite all the talent that has come through the country in the past few years, 9:00 seems to be about the limit for high school girls. Rainsberger ran 9:00 in the best race of her life. Starliper ran 9:07 in an excellent performance. Tuohy ran 9:01 as well as multiple other 9:0x times. Cain was the only one to break through under 9:00, and she did it while winning a world junior title. Efraimson also ran 9:00 on an oversized track in the same year she ran 4:07 and placed 6th at world juniors. The truth is, even if any of these girls run under 9:00, it will not be by much. It's a very elite time. And that gets me to the second part; that you think they will demolish all existing track records. Are. You. Fckin. Kidding me? 8:58 is pushing it. 4:04 will NOT be broken. Not a shot. I doubt any girls go under 4:10 in the 1500 this year. Murphy was the last one to come close and the effort of that season broke her forever. Not to mention, 15:37 is likely to stand as well. It's roughy equivalent to 9:00, and is run very rarely. Some of these girls are definitely capable of sub-16:00, and probably even capable of 15:3x, but they will not get in the right race to do it. Tuohy was an absolute fiend that year, and especially she had the ability to run incredible times totally solo, and just click off splits. She went out in under 10:00 for the 5k and only fell off a bit. Something some people may not know; she ran 14:56 for 4800m in a time trial before her junior year of cross country. She ran speed ratings of 176, 177, 173, 174 in her first 4 races that season. That is how good you have to be to run 15:30s. None of these girls are close. Sorry, but that's the facts.

Hutchins will be running Saturday at the RunningLane meet in Huntsville on what is essentially a grass track. If she has a good day she could go sub 16 and set a new XC record.
At a boys race earlier this year 16 flat on that course was speed rated at 162. Her last race was speed rated at 168 same as Thorvaldson and the one before that in worse conditions than Terre Haute was rated a 171.
Brynn Brown is definitely greatest distance runner to come out of Texas on the girl's side. Really hoping she doesn't get injured like she did last year, assuming she runs any post-state meet events. She can definitely break the 3200m record, and possibly challenge the 2-mile record by Mary Cain, during track this year. But we'll see. Is she greater than Tuohy and other girl's? Probably not, but she's definitely an elite, and this year's crop of girl's is looking really stacked. Can you all name a year that's more stacked as this one? Maybe not the best female runner ever, but certainly a few girl's who would be up there for sure.
Brown's Region 1 win last week was massive.
Wins the race in 17:08, with 2nd in 18:19 (4:52/10:48), 3rd (4:50/10:16) in 18:37.
In a prior race, she already beat another top TX girl this season (4:55/10:30) by about 1:30.
Boy's race was won in 15:45 by a guy who ran 8:38/9:17/4:21 in the short season last year.
Brown would have finished 30th, in the boy's race, assuming she ran the same time.
I really hope we get to see her race the other top girls, otherwise we'll be missing out on a phenomenal year.
