The effortless win in his second event at the distance in Poland at Worlds, even when the slow first 5k should have played into the more experienced road runners hands, is what points me to Jacob Kiplimo winning this. He just turned 20yo yesterday. He has had 3 races this year, winning all, 2 in NR's and the other taking 25 sec off his PB over 5000m.
Valencia Half Marathon is in 21 days, here are 42 profiles: two per day

Gidey in her debut at the distance is the obvious choice to be first female.
-
Letesenbet is 22yo and tomorrow is a year to the day since she shook up the distance running world with an amazing last 10k of a 15k event to take the WR. It seems with her WR on the track over 5000m last month, Gidey will be primed for something special here again.
-
Second might be Rhonex Kipruto in his debut. 21yo, third over 10000m at the Worlds last year.

My choice for second, Senbere Teferi, would have to go 30-40 seconds quicker than her current PB to challenge FTW. Teferi is 25yo and her best is 65.32, recorded in winning here last year. Also won at RAK last year in 65.45. Won over 10k in Tilburg in 30.38 in 2017, a time still entrenching her in the top 20 women in history over that distance on the road. Over 5000 on the track, was 5th at the last Olympics, bookended by a silver and a fourth in Worlds either side. -

Third and giving Rhonex everything he can handle will be Kibiwott Kandie. Where will that place him among half marathoners this year, if you were ranking them? -

Third should be Dorcas Tuitoek, here is my profile from Houston in January:
Dorcas Tuitoek may be the next lady, turning 22 at the end of the month and ranked 14. Chased Ruth C in her first half and set her PB which still stands: in April in Istanbul, 2nd in 66.33. Then third in Copenhagen in Sept just three seconds slower. -

Next finisher should be Bedan Karoki. Spends much of his year running 10000's on the track in Japan. Has an impressive resume at this distance. PB of 58.42, winning RAK as defending champ in 2018. -
Next week in Delhi, Kosgei v Yeshaneh could bring something memorable. Hoping Gidey seven days after can go quicker.
-
Only 7 mini bios done, will have to step it up when I have a day off tomorrow.

Fourth female could be Sheila Chepkirui, 29yo, fifth in Prague in Sept in 67.37. Two impressive 10k wins: in Valencia in Jan in 29.46 and in Prague in Sept last year in 29.57.
-
Fifth man may be Benard Ngeno, 24yo, second here last year in his PB of 59.07. That was one of four sub 60 half results last year. Second in Houston this last Jan in 59.26 but poor last month at Worlds: 42nd in 62.26.

Next woman might be the other debutante, Genzebe Dibaba. The legend still holds the 1500 WR and NR's for the mile and 2000: all from 2014-16. Won Olympic silver and gold at the 2015 World Champs over 1500, bronze over 5000. Ran her PB at Palo Alto in 2019, as well as most of the Diamond League circuit over 1500 and 3000. In 2018 ran 5000 in 14.26.89. -

Next could be Stephen Kiprop, still only 21yo, who won RAK in 58.42 in Feb 2019. April that year was second in Prague in 59.20. Also 4th in 2018 here in 59.21. -

Still no Emily Sisson. How do you think she will go? -

Not yet. Sixth lady should be Brenda Jepleting, second in Ready for the Restart in Prague in 67.07. -

No Julien Wanders yet either: seventh should be Alexander Mutiso, 24yo, with a PB of 59.09 when he won in Santa Pola, Spain, in January. Then just 33 days later was second at RAK in 59.16. Spends some of his year competing in Japan. Was tenth in Copenhagen in 2018 in 60.11. -

While waiting for Delhi to start, I was thinking. Win or lose in Valencia, if Kibiwott goes sub 59 again, he will set a benchmark that might never be equaled: four in a year. There is only 32 performances of that ilk in history. And the planets have to align to master four in a year. Four flat courses, good weather, competition to push. Once in a generation feat. -

Emily at seventh, with a best of 67.30 when 5th in Houston in Jan last year. Sisson is 29 and in April last year was 6th in London at the classic distance in her PB of 2.23.08. Won over 10000 on the track in the lead up to that in 30.49.57.
