Wow. A deep conference like the Big 10 would suffer. They had Kusche, Mylenek, and Basten as 3 of the 4 qualifiers last year but none would go to nationals if only the conference champ qualifies. But they beat a bunch of conference champs at the regional who would qualify under this criteria.

You are on a different topic. I pointed out 3 individuals who were 3 of the 4 qualifiers in their regional, all from the Big 10, who would not make nationals under the new criteria.

Where does that leave someone like Tom Radcliffe who finished one XC meet this season.

Leaves him at home where you belong if you can't finish more than one race and if you fall apart as badly as he did at the ACC meet. He was on the lead group with a mile to go.

Also, this individual qualification was sent to NCAA coaches a couple weeks ago. Any coach who didn't know that at their conference meet, didn't read their email.

Pretty sure that the individuals will be chosen from the conference meets that will take place in the winter and not now. The races that took place this fall will definitely help/hurt some team’s cases for an NCAA bid but there is still a whole winter of racing to be done before anything is even close to being final.

From the guide lines:

"a team will be evaluated for its body of work for all competitions, regardless of the time of year they occurred."

The individual stipulations do not state conference meets need be in spring. All individual champs are guaranteed a slot (regardless of meet date this year); they will fill the individual quota to 38.

I will be curious as to how they propose to do the team selection. "Conference championship performance holds the most weight." Does that mean Kentucky women can not get in unless Ole Miss gets in? Does it mean the NCAA will consider American/CUSA/Sun Belt/MAC champs (the MW champ usually gets in anyway) as well as some other mid major champs?

Pretty vague criteria...maybe just a way of saying the committee will select the teams it feels are most deserving among the declared using head to head competition as a reference.

Well it won't matter because Covid is gonna cancel all sports. IDk if you have noticed but Joe biden is winning. This country will shut down again.

I doubt they will guarantee 2 conference champs if it differs from fall to winter.

Conference champs is only for individuals. The top individual in each conference not on a team selected gets to go. There apparently are 32 conferences and only 38 individual spots so the good runners from the great conferences are going to get screwed.

Yes.

These are supposed to count and not be rerun. Well see how long that last when teams realize they are screwed for qualifying. A team like Syracuse will push to rerun ACCs I’m sure.

No. The committee can still select them

Sort of. They can select a total of 6! Three examples were provided. I can go through the regionals and point out 20 guys who will not qualify under the new criteria. So to your quick "no", you are incorrect if you think the first 3 names pointed out will be 3 of the 6.

There will NOT be conference championships in the winter for those that ran it already. There will be meets in the winter that will allow teams to prove they should be in the ncaa championships. Syracuse has some work to do. They have plenty of talent and could likely get in with one really good meet in February.

Will they still make their decision based off of regions. Some of the weaker regions like south could only have one team or will they add Georgia who has the third at conference or individual win for the men’s?

No mention of regional representation. Georgia is about the 50th best team so I don't see them getting in. Guessing Wood would be the only individual.
