Can't fault the guy for thinking about his post-athletics career. He is 37 (38 in March) and must understand that retirement is just around the corner. Being on a reality show could be a gateway to a lucrative post-athletics career in the media (other than being brought out every few months to comment on the London marathon or a WC). A few weeks of rest may actually be better for Mo at this point as Tokyo is still a long way off.
At least we won't have to worry about any drug testing whereabouts failures for Mo during this period...
Lmao WADA is going to show up to the castle then Mo will not drop the drawbridge down and say he didn't receive their mail pigeon requesting him to allow their entry.
Why can’t he just have a treadmill in the house or where ever he is holed up?
Yes, it won’t be “proper” training, but he could easily log enough easy treadmill miles to build/maintain base
It’s unlikely there is another major race he is peaking for anytime soon, so easy running for 3 weeks won’t kill him
Hopefully the doorbell for the set will be working. It would be good to see his out of competition tester turn up though
Given his history of claiming racism when things don't go his way, I'm awaiting the racism card to be played when he is voted out.
Yeah, Big Brother brought in a little pool gimmick for Ryan Lochte.
I would imagine the show will let him go and run up a mountain and back each day or something - give everyone something to talk about, and let him moan about his aches and pains on TV so everyone knows what it's like living with a Real Runner. I can just imagine all kinds of tensions brewing.... "Mo! Wash that running kit NOW!"
if its anything like the Australian version (filmed in South Africa) they are in an outdoor camp with nothing but beds and a basic shower and toilet. so no treadmill, swimming pool or gym equipment...but they did have access to a little waterfall area where you could swim.
or at least that's what the audience see. it wouldn't surprise me if they shoot for 3 hours in a day and spend the rest of the time in a hotel.
it seems like a good bit of self promotion for Mo. the only problem being that any time we get to see a bit of his personality he comes across as an unlikeable kent.
3 weeks off wont effect his training. he's already cooked.
I guess he's a celebrity in UK, but pretty much unknown except to running groupies outside UK. It's like "Dancing with the Stars" in the US: both the "dancing" and the "stars" are questionable.

Typical stupid American. You do realize there are other countries where he is HUGE... right? The "sir" thing didn't tip you off as to his fame and popularity? Just like people in this country outside of swimming know Phelps, so do they know Mo in England and Somalia.
All true but, “typical stupid American” and then going on to reveal that you’re American is beyond cringeworthy.

I bet you can’t find 100 random Somalis on the streets of Mogadishu that know who Michael Phelps is. Typical American.
You have a serious reading comprehension problem.
The new head of UK Athletics says Farah appearing on the show in some ways is a dream but also risky.
“It’s a knife-edge decision,” the UKA chief govt, Jo Coates, stated. “For me as a marketer, to have athletes in mainstream TV reveals is simply perfection. We labored so onerous to get netballers into these reveals. However – and a large nevertheless – you’d by no means wish to do this to the detriment of efficiency.
“Part of our communications strategy is about reaching a new audience. That’s what we have to do. And shows like that take our athletes to a completely different audience …but I would never condone it to the detriment of performance because ultimately that’s what they do.”
The article says he reportedly was paid £300,000 ($388k US).

I was having a laugh. Don’t read anything serious into my posts on this thread.

He couldn't sense that you were joking because he is a typical stupid american. Don't worry about him.
Its ridiculous. No other athlete with a chance of making a British elite team would be allowed by British Athletics to do this. Pretty sure they have to sign contracts which limit social media exposure to very restricted things. The contracts are so strict that some athletes simply avoid singing them and are therefore excluded from training camps, physio sessions, and arguably British teams.
Yet its Mo Farah. Different rules apply to him because he's a special boy, very politically correct to give him special dispensation. He is constantly promoted by the British media in a way in which other British gold medal winners arent.
I honestly cannot imagine any other British athlete being "allowed" by UK Athletics to do something like this.

And let me add that the embarrassingly low-IQ other 99% of the world has no idea who famous American jocks are. There was even a thread recently full of patriotic Euros bragging how they had never heard of Drew Trees. Don't you realize there are countries outside of Europe where soccer is completely obscure?

Nothing to do with being PC.
Mo was Britain's best chance at gold medals on the track for years. UKA needed him to hit their medals targets.
The grants they give to athletes are a pittance compared to what he has earned in appearance fees and winnings at events like Great North Run and London Marathon. He doesn't need to represent GB, they needed him.

As for I'm a Celebrity, this year's is being held in a Welsh castle rather than a jungle. I doubt he'll be able to go for training runs after all the nature of the programme is to make celebs uncomfortable.

What are his chances at 10,000m in Tokyo? With the 5K-10K WRs being smashed by CHeptegui, I;m sure there are some other guys coming through who will be good for the medals?

Let me add that the world's hated 'stupid American's don't allow USATF to make decisions for them. Look at the LRC front page right now. UK Federation officials, one of which is quoted there, literally 'allowed' this - as opposed to not having a say in it at all. Feel free to give up your own decision-making authority if you wish. We 'stupid Americans' will continue not doing so.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
