Is there a "scientific" reason why higher drop shoes (10mm etc.) should be more beneficial for longer runs or is this just a preference thing?

They are generally easier on the achilles...which is based on biology/biomechanics. It's really not a controversial view. At any rate, good to see the usual roster of incels (1) get so mad at a softly stated, very reasonable opinion (it's a shoe review after all) and (2) feel the need to denigrate a woman's appearance/body to make themselves feel better. Never change, letsrun.

Sure, but that's not the only injury that exists. You're always moving the stress somewhere up the chain.
I'd also suggest that doing all your running in high drop shoes might increase the risk of injury when running in spikes or flats (the tendon and calf muscle can shorten).
I don't often agree with his shoe reviews, its a very personal thing and he gives positive marks that work for him. But there's good info in there to help make decisions if you filter out the opinions. There have been plenty of shoes he's given great marks to where I immediately think "nope, that won't work for me" and vice versa. There are other reviewers out there who I do tend to share opinions with, but that doesn't mean else everyone will.

Honestly the happy nuclear family stuff is just an act. They probably hate each other just as much the rest of the happy American families.
It would be pretty funny if he posted a video where they were just arguing or yelling at the kids. No explanation, then go back to normal the next day.

Winning Pike's Peak was a big accomplishment but, it was an off year with COVID and the nearby wildfire smoke weakening the fields. A win is a win but, how would he have fared if Jornet, Walmsley, Gray, and others had shown up?
Lol come on. Those guys weren't going to show regardless, Pikes Peak is not that caliber of race.

Perhaps. But a great many people nowadays won't ever run in flats or spikes....super shoes for (racing) road miles up to marathons. Unless you really like "ground feel," I can no longer see why someone would choose, say, the Takumi Sen over the Next% (even for a road mile or 5K). I would even suggest that for a great many (nonelite) people, super shoes will be faster than spikes (for anything mile or over) on the track. The relatively low drop on the Alphafly, for instance?....I wonder whether drop functions the same way in these as in harder, non-bonkers designed shoes.
Yes, I own the Ultra 3-7 in various versions (SG and non-SG) as well as I have a pair of Fellcross 3's that I love and still pull out of the closet which have even less cushion than the Ultra's and I've used up to 50 miles without issue. And honestly not sure what you are on about, many other athletes than Kilian have worn them up to 100 miles. I regularly use them for 50k races but will concede that I generally will go with a more cushioned shoe for longer races but that is mostly due to the 4mm drop than anything really as they can be hard on the achilles and calf.
Looking forward to the Pulsar as the 6mm drop should make going to 100 miles no problem.
Seth competed against a bunch of True Love’s at Pikes Peak.
Why do you care so much? You're probably giving him far too much respect and time, TBH. You are allowed to think for yourself and disagree, he only has the authority that you concede to him.
I want to see True Love give a vaporfly review after going on a 2 mile run in 36 minutes.
I use to like watching SJD a lot, and was even cheering for him to OTQ in Amsterdam and NYC, but that was back when his channel didn't blow up yet. He seems like a nice dude and he is a strong runner.
I feel like something happened. His vlogs now are all over the place and a lot of it is either filler or not interesting (personally). His shoe reviews, though somewhat informative, seem to be very very very subjective. For example, I don't mind a bit of a heavier shoe (i like my nimbus 22s) but extra weight to him seems like a sin. And what made me really question him was his planning and decisions. Things like him running NYC hard a couple weeks for before the world mountain running championships, him FILMING while running WMRC (like his spot didnt mean anything), choosing to sign up for CIM/Houston/Miami when these were most likely not going to happen (choose a smaller marathon if you wanna race). I don't know, something just feels different for me. Maybe he's starting to choose quantity of vids over quality? I really just dont know.
Also, this is nitpiciking, but the green background with white font he uses kind of hurts my eyes to read.
I'll still say subscribed to him. I do appreciate different opinions on shoes and gear and I like watching people's race recap videos. I just will skip his vlogs and clickbait titles.
I agree. His channel is going downhill in my opinion. The shoe reviews are definitely weak. There were some shoes where his review was based on four or five runs. Not sure that’s enough. I’m also not a fan of True Love. She seems too fake. Hard to believe she’s so positive taking care of the kids while Seth’s out running for two hours.
I used to enjoy Kofuzi’s videos but he’s hard to watch these days coupled with the fact that he doesn’t really review Nike shoes.
Kofuzi is just dull. He doesn’t have any personality. Seth has a daily blog about running and nothing to talk about. He started including True Love to take up space. His build ups to and running in “big” races is somewhat entertaining and is what has gotten him viewers. Things like crying while running the 100 mile race and trying to run an OTQ. His shoe reviews are dull. I think he knows it. It’s why he’s been repeatedly trying to sign up for and enter races while everyone knows they will be cancelled. It’s all just to try to give himself things to talk about
Every time Seth takes a running break every one starts whining about his vlogs ect. Geez give the guy a break. Not every vlog is going to be perfect. His audience is varied so the vlogs on foam roaming ect will not appeal to his 2:45 runners who are knowledgeable about recovery products. Just as his “ Family “ vlogs will not appeal perhaps to the college runners.
I do agree that Seth could improve on his shoe reviews. I think he knows this and actually has admitted he will work on getting better. He needs to get rid of the first impression vlogs. Would be nice maybe to include a heavier runner opinion on his shoe that he is reviewing.
In the end I will be watching his quest for 2:04 1/2 and his races. 2020 has not been a easy one for anyone involved in training, fitness ect. I think we all need to remember this.
I was annoyed when he ran in the Tempo Next % once, said he didn't like them and proceeded to cut them apart.
Let me add I think the best thing Seth could do is take a week or two vlog vacation. Would enable him to fine tune his shoe review vlogs and give him time to refocus and reenergize. He should take this break every year.
I agree with you. I don’t like it when he cuts up shoes. It’s not very interesting.
Another point for all the YouTube races out there. 2020 is difficult if you vlog racing and running. There really is no racing. So you need to think of ideas that involve people. Seths vid of him taking the boys to the mountain was a great idea. Diversify and involve people. We all feel a little cooped up and isolated now.
