Syracuse should buy this track. They could set it up in the carrier dome and host indoor track meets.

The city puts up and takes down the track every year. You can say a lot, but you're not gonna come out here and and bad mouth the folks who put in a ton of work making sure the meets go off without issues.
It is letsrun. The safe assumption is the commenter has the reading skills of a 3 year old and nuances like that are beyond them.
I would be curious to know what the market is for a track like this and how if I was looking to buy an indoor track I would ever even hear about this auction.
There is a strong market for the track and quite a few individuals have inquired about it. One thing that provides a roadblocks is having the right size facility to place the track in. Iowa bought the track from World Indoors at Portland and the building was barely big enough. So if someone just wanted an indoor track for training, etc the building could be smaller. But if someone wants to host high school meets (as an example) the footprint of the building must be larger. Its a great financial deal as a new Mondo track would cost $2mil which would put most people out of consideration.
How was the asking price set? Who would just pay the asking price? This isn't like asking X for a rare Porsche, for example; or any other classic car. If they don't accept a price, then they are left with a relic. If I were a venue or college, I would submit a low bid, and see how the bidding process progresses. It doesn't make sense for a buyer to jump in unless they are willing to give it a permanent home.

That is the problem. Sure it is a great deal but who has a building where this specific track fits their needs AND they don't have a track or where the track needs replacement and this is a better deal than just resurfacing. I am sure the listing is to meet some regulation and the actually sale is done more by direct contact.

Anybody know how much the track ended up being sold for or who bought it?
I have been told it was bought by a club in Fayetteville Arkansas and will used for high school indoor track meets
How can an indoor track be worth as much as a house? Get outta here
Actually a gentleman from Fayetteville, Arkansas won the bidding for $411,000. I believe he planned on setting the track up so that youth sports could participate. I have heard that the track is just sitting in a barn and has not been set up. Given it is wood underneath the Mondo top layer I'd be worried about warping and deterioration.
