Of course we have hindsight but that looked like sandlot desperation.

The pathetic fake punt, followed by the defense allowing a 20-yard untouched rushing TD on the next play. Total clown-show.
Two more touchdowns for Washington since then. Man Dallas is terrible.

This Coyboys team just failed miserably to get a TD after an INT return to inside the 5 yard line. This is pathetic.
Dallas is terrible but has there ever been a worse division than the NFC East this year? I can't think of any.
The worst team in the worst division.
Holy sh$@.
I paused the game on dvr and was watching later after dinner. My in laws knew the result.
Dallas should have won the game and lost by 25.
4th quarter down by 4 and you do a fake punt on 4th and 10 in your own territory?
This is after getting on the 4 yard line and not getting a td and cd lamb dropping the game tieing touchdown. Should have been tied then .
Going for it 4th and 1 in 2nd quarter isn’t a bad call. But I run the ball at least once there.
4th and 10 fake punt and getting no yards? Idiotic.
Playoff odds would have been great with a win . I assume they are like under 10% now.
Just looked it up.
Playoffs odds 11% now.
Were 25% before game would have been 38% if we won.
They would have been better off faking an offense than a punt, although some might say they did that much of the game.

In the post prior to this one you said, "Playoff odds would have been great if they won."
I am not sure about the Ivy League but at my state school 38% on a test was nothing to be proud of and certainly not "great".
They need to lose every game now to try to get a top 5 pick. So just keep up what you have been doing boys. Too bad there are so many terrible teams because Trevor Lawrence would look great in a Cowboys uniform.
If I was Jerry I would call Nick Saban and offer him 10 million per year to coach. I think he would be highly motivated to get another shot at the NFL.
I love Dak the person but they can't pay him 30 million to be the QB. This team has significant holes everywhere and they can't put that much cap money into one guy. McCarthy and Elliott should be shown the door pronto.
How 'bout them boys? They stunk up the joint again, getting destroyed by the last place team. Alex Smith had 17 surgeries and still carved up the hapless losers and suckers from that nasty place called Dallas.

I think most agree that Lawrence goes #1. Unfortunatley for Dallas, the Jets have yet to win a game. So unless the Jets can go better than .500 the rest of the season, it seems likely that Dallas can't get the top spot (barring a trade). Would be interesting, though, with Dak not on a long term contract, to draft a QB and move forward.
The Ezekial Elliott contract is looking like a huge albatross at this point for Dallas..

It is interesting how fast personnel changes in the NFL. The teams that toss out few long term mega-deals (Patriots, Steelers, etc.) are the teams that are always restocking with the next up and coming stars and they can afford them. How many big name $ free agents have those two teams and other perennial playoff teams gone after? Then there are those that offer huge money to star after star after their best days are gone and they are always fighting an uphill battle. Especially in the current NFL where running back talent seems to be everywhere, the Elliott contract is looking just like you said.

Well, the Jets and Jags are worse at 0-10 and 1-9. Yes, the NFC East is definitely the worse division in football

Big running back contracts never seem to pay out. Dalvin Thompson got one, and is having a good year. But so did Christian McCaffrey, and he is not doing so well. Nor is Zeke. Others in the past couple years -- LeVeon Bell, Todd Gurley, etc, played a year or so on second contracts before their teams moved them on.
Back to NFC East, it will be interesting to see if the Giants pony up big bucks for Saquon Barkely. I'd argue they never even should have drafted him -- spending a #2 pick on a RB meant a huge guaranteed contract that I don't think he'd ever live up to. I expect them to re-sign him though, and he could cost $20 million per year, which is absurd, but then, it's the Giants.
You meant Dalvin Cook.

Like you said, many of the top year-in-year out teams move on from RB pretty quickly without investing huge $ in them. Then the organizations that just don't seem to get it, put huge $ into these guys. Bell was aging for a RB and sat out a year, but there was the NYJ crippling their cap yet again.
Your thoughts on Barkley are very interesting and telling on the Giants as well. He had a splash year but really has not done much sense. That can attributed to the guys around him to an extent but you can't spend money everywhere and they spent it on him & a real reach at QB.
Washington at least shows some promise. Maybe it was because it was against the Cowboys who are really struggling across the board but they look like their young defense has some things to build upon.
The Cowboys have the worst record in the entire NFC and yet are only one game out of first place in the division and "earning" a #4 seed in the playoffs and hosting a playoff game ... against a team with probably twice the number of wins.
The NFL must revamp the playoff system. Going to four divisions has allowed teams with below .500 records to make the playoffs. Before the change in 2002, only two teams ever made the playoffs with a losing record and both occurred during the strike season of 1982 when they only played about 9 or 10 games. Since the change, two teams (and soon to be three) have made it with losing records.
I think there should be a rule that if a division champion does not win at least 8 games then the team is replaced in the playoffs by best team to not earn a wild card.
