Funding should be reduced to $1.6 Million to be commensurate with U.S. share of the global population.
According to WADA, when you factor in additional government financial contributions, Canada actually contributed more to WADA than the US in both 2018 and 2019.
WADA did not and does not determine and does not have any control over the contributions of the governments:
- In a 2001 meeting (the Cape Town Declaration), participants from 33 countries, agreed on a split that included "The Americas" region contributing 29% of all government contributions. Rather than just considering the portion of the respective populations, this factored in the ability to pay, and the participation in Olympic sports.
- In a 2008 meeting, the USA committed to pay 50% of the dues for "The Americas" region.
These are commitments from the USA, not to WADA, but to all of the governments in their region, and commitments of that region to all the remaining governments in the world.
While the current WADA rules would not allow banning the USA, following a lapse in dues, any representatives would be removed from the board, the executive committee, and any ad hoc or standing committees.
