This would be good for running because our runners are not that good at the world stage anymore. We will have more pride in our runners competing against themselves in national finals, and running might become more popular if this happens due to the lower skill required to make it to the top available level. This would stink for basketball, swimming, gymnastics, and whatever else the U.S. is good at in the Olympics.
Will never happen. Too many TVs in the US owned by too many people with money for them to exclude the US. NBC sold $1 billion in ads for the olympics. Pretty sure it will get worked out.
Careful - I posted this earlier today and the thread was deleted within the hour.

Why?...is it because it's fake news?

Lmao what?
In Doha, we went 1-2 at the 100m M, gold in the 110mH M, gold in the 200m M, bronze in the 400m M, silver in the 400mH M, gold in the 800m M, 1-2 in the 110mH W, silver in the 200m W, 1-2 in the 400mH W (and a new world record), silver and bronze in the 800m W, silver in the steeple W, gold in the 4x100m M, gold in the 4x400m M, bronze in the 4x100m, W, gold in the 4x400m W, and gold in the 4x400m mixed.
The US got more gold medals and total medals than any other country in Doha, and even the Olympics if you want to go back 4 years. The US is a global running powerhouse. We produce more than 2x gold medals and total medals in track and field than any other country. To say that we aren't good at the global stage is a complete lie.

It looks like the pressure on WADA is coming from several governments, who didn't take USA's threat to withold funding kindly.
Withholding funding from WADA would hurt anti-doping.
If the USA, as a WADA signatory, does not meet its obligations under the WADA code, then non-compliance seems like a just consequence.
The root of this is a poorly written ONDCP report full of errors and misinformation.

You are a maroon. Not good at the world stage any more? Do you watch the sport? At least in terms of the Olympics our runners do quite well.

The Predictor was clearly trolling. Why is everyone taking his post so seriously?

Anti doping just endorses doping.
Does almost everyone on letsrun believe that drugs actually give you more energy?
Discus.

Which part of what I said above do you think Tygart disagrees with?
I guess it is your right to put your faith in people, rather than evaluating the substance of their arguments.
I personally see several inconsistencies, and contradictions, in some of the statements and positions of Tygart.
And WADA did a very thorough job of pointing out the inconsistencies, misrepresentations, and sometimes wrong information, in the ONDCP report.

Steroids make women stronger.
Roho: not going to happen, NBC money guarantees it.

He goes by the name Travis T. Tygert ... Travesty Tygert. There must be a reason for that. And, yes ... he not someone anyone should trust. And he is a registered Republican (per mylife.com), so no surprise he supports what Trump says. Mylife also shows Tygert having court, arrest, and/or, criminal records in his background ... he is not exactly Mr. Clean.
https://www.mylife.com/travis-tygart/e900021369966Lol, did anyone read the article?
We’re talking about WADA literally making up a rule and the US not paying a measly $2.7 million. (Seriously. $2.7 million. Lebron could just say, “screw this, I’m playing in Tokyo, here’s $5.4 million to cover next year too).
Obviously this is just a pissing contest. The US is making a threat for WADA to do better I guess. WADA and the other countries are saying “fine, We’ll make a threat too”. Lol, can’t people just talk and work things out?
Like Tokyo is going to happen anyway ... non-issue.

I read the article.
We are not talking about WADA literally making up a rule. The proposal for an amendment comes to WADA from other concerned governments.
According to Reuters:
"We have been approached by a number of governments of the world "
"These governments want us to consider an amendment to the compliance standard meaning that non-payment by a government of its WADA contribution could lead directly to that country’s NADO (National Anti-Doping Organisation) being declared non-compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code"
According to the Washington Post:
"This matter has been raised by some concerned Governments, not by WADA’s leadership"
"as is the case with any proposal raised by a stakeholder, WADA has an obligation to consider it carefully."
Tygart called this an attempt to "illegally threaten U.S. athletes" but it looks more like it would be a "legal threat to USADA".
According to the article, quoting Jorge Leyva, CEO of the Institute of National Anti-Doping Organizations (iNADO) even without rule changes, there may be compliance issues, as USADA would be outside the system, leaving American athletes in an awkward position with no recognized NADO:
"Even without an amendment to WADA rules, an unprecedented move by the U.S. to cut funding could trigger a messy non-compliance issue and leave American athletes in limbo."
"If the U.S. were to pull its share of the funding to WADA then the consequences for USADA — they quite simply would be outside the system and it would be a non-compliance issue working with the Olympic Games and things like that."
"That would simply be a catastrophe for American athletes ...."

Since you trust people, Dick Pound disagrees with Tygart. Now you need to make a subjective decision about who to trust. I settle that dilemma by judging how well their statements and arguments are supported, and not contradicted, by historical facts and logic and other real world observations.
With respect to the initial ONDCP report:
"Pound, a Canadian member of WADA’s foundation board, its highest decision-making body, said the United States' criticisms and threat were "really kind of out of the blue.""
"It’s certainly the first time that a major partner who’s been in WADA and played an important role from the very beginning all of a sudden is threatening to take its marbles and go home."
"There's no reason for it. It can do no good in the fight against doping in sport. It's not really conduct you expect from one of your founding partners."
"Pound, who's also the IOC’s longest-serving member, having served on that committee since 1978, said he found the entire U.S. report curious, given that no U.S. representative had previously sounded alarms, that Americans on the foundation board had previously approved past reform measures and that in some cases Americans hadn’t even sought positions on WADA’s various boards or committees."
Dick Pound, and WADA, raised some serious concerns with the accuracy and omissions of the report, and the general process followed, which went unaddressed by Tygart and the ONDCP.
