You can't find out anything at all with a wheel, or a cat. Tracks are more exact than that. Way more!
Respectfully disagree. Cats are reknowned for waking the straightest line of any animal (genetic trait inherited from ancestors hiding the numbers of their cat packs), which means they always hit the tangent. Why do you think the Egyptians revered them so much? They helped keep the sides of the pyramids in straight lines. The 1904 Olympic marathon actually went through 37 cats measuring the distance through the tangents (unfortunately most were hit by cars before the 37th finally got to the stadium - the term “cat-like reflexes” was coined ironically by the race director).
Our family secret is out!
Many, many generations ago back in the old country our family business was taking care of these special cats used for measuring. The town's people would never use my great, great grandfather's first name - Elijah, but called him for what he was known for - "Cats".
When the family moved to the USA. Grandpa saw that the ignorant members of this country were still playing with feet, inches, fractions, etc. and decided to find a new profession. He realized that there was no way to educate these backward citizens and feared that they would make his family outcasts if they found out about his families measurement history. So, the family decided never to mention it again.
Fast forward to the mid 1960's when I was a member of the junior high school track team. A cat ran out in front of me on the track, a bright light beamed down from the heavens and I suddenly had the urge to start measuring the track. Now my great, great grandfather's last words to me made sense - "David, measure it!" - and the rest is history!!
