The reason why Coe & Ovett were so far ahead of the GB runners that followed in the 90's and early 00's, is because they both doped, just like the other big GBR names of the 80s - Wells, Whitbread, Christie, Capes etc.
Many Brits - just like some Americans when it comes to Carl Lewis & JJK - refuse to believe the obvious, that their heroes were dirty.

So obvious you don't need to supply any evidence or even argument. And you ignore the obvious contradiction as to why the British runners after Coe and Ovett (and presumably you believe Cram and Peter Elliott, David Moorcroft were doping) didn't appear to take advantage of EPO, unlike most of the rest of the world.
Oh the irony of Coevett chastising OTHERS for not providing evidence 😂😂😂😂😂

Not a contradiction, although Ovett and Coe definitely didn't uses EPO as it was made after their primes, British runners now are less likely to use it because there's testing for it.
I'm not saying Coe or Ovett were clean they just didn't use Epo but testing in the 70's, 80's, and to a lesser extent the 90's was terrible. So they could have used anything else.
Alyson Felix....She's just too honorable to be taking steroids and she's never "had the look".
It's fair to criticize posters who say athlete "X" is dirty without evidence, but people who defend alleged drug cheats with the following explanations are also equally flawed:
1) Never tested positive (Lance Armstrong and Marion Jones)
2) Were elite as youngsters and young professionals and thus their improvements are valid (Barry Bonds was already a hall-of-famer before he went full steroids. )
Naïve to think there are more clean than dirty Olympic-Level athletes.
Probably the only one on that list was Ovett, even though I hope that Tergat was (probably my second favorite behind Geb).
Anyone that is world-class (and dare I say national class) is suspect. I think peds are now so prevalent in the sport that athletes justify it believing that they can’t compete without them - and they’re right. I’d be interested to see who in the US has been tested over the past year. Even if they are testing the athletes are ahead of the curve.

I don't see that as proof of guit in any way. The fact is that drugs are banned and those who use them are cheating.
It certainly doesn't say he opposes it either.

She does strike me as "the one" who could be, but we've been burned before.
Coe - dirty
Ovett - semi-clean
Morcelli - dirty, like, to the gills
Lagat - dirty to the moon
Tergat - dirty
El Guerrouj - dirty
Bekele - dirty to the maxx
Mo Farah - dirty dirtbag
Serhiy lebid - dirty
Kiprop - dirty like cray cray dirty
Jacob Ingerbritsen- semi-clean
Lopez lomong - dirty as dirt can be
Rudisha- semi-clean
Eluid Kipchoge - dirty, mega dirty
jager - semi-clean
Mo Ahmed - dirty
Bob Kennedy - semi clean
Schweizzer- semi clean
Houlihan- semi clean
Who?
Of course Mo Farah's clean. He just has a really poorly functioning doorbell and listens very loudly to music through his headphones.........
In general I assume top athletes are not clean, though I've always wanted Allyson Felix to be an exception.
LRC logic:
Black athletes: dirty
White athletes: semi-clean
White American athletes: clean

Me too, but if I knew how to get the good stuff, I'd be on EPO, HGH, testosterone, thyroid meds, you name it. There's this one a@#hole who always beats me by a few seconds. He won't be laughing when my 16:43 turns into a 16:05.
Couldn’t agree more.
Coe - clean
Lagat- clean
Tergat - dirty
Komen - dirty
Haile - clean
Bekele - dirty
El Gerrouj - dirty
Jakob - clean
Rudisha - clean
Eliud - clean
Rupp - cleanish (not breaking the rules but breaking the integrity of the rules)
Cheptegei - clean
Sammy Wanjiru - dirty
Ryan Hall - clean
Ritz - clean
Webb - clean
Farah - dirty
Waldemar Cierpinski - dirty (Frank deserves his 2nd gold medal)
Nick Willis - clean
So Farah and Rupp arent clean but Ritz was? C'mon.....
To the poster who said Schweizer and Houlihan are dirty, I disagree, there may be some form of over-subscribing certain medication but that's as far as I'll go, and even that I think may be a stretch, but I'm a cynic
Finally +1 to anyone who has called out Eliud in this thread. No one wants to admit it, but the guy is not clean. He's been Nike's pet project for years (at the very least since Mo). I don't believe his age either & during his track career he was always battling w Bekele who was up to his gills in EPO etc etc etc
& side note, EK has never run under 2:04 without super shoes. just saying
