I would prefer 10k. 2nd choice is mile. 3rd choice is 800.
If she does 800 I'm guessing it's because she knows her season peak was a month ago and she knows she's not in record shape anymore. We'll see

Why not just have someone pace her to a 4:12 flat instead. Get a male pacer. I mean i wouldn't give a fvck if that was the case. I want to see an american go after it.
Good thought!
Just do it!
I am now confused. I thought this was an American miler record attempt but people are saying she’s running the 800.

A failed doping test vs no failed doping tests still means something to me. If it doesn’t to you then I am not sure why you still come around to places like this.
It does make a difference.
Then you should understand why I pointed it out.

4:11.88 coming up. Her HGH face makes me laugh. The Bowerman 'babes' are getting more sculpted jaw lines than the most alpha Chads. The sky is the limit in a season with no real testing. Its all a charade.

I was thinking the same thing about Emma.

Last race of the year for the Bowerman Track Club this Friday and it sounds like they’ll be running the mile among other things. Shelby’s 3:54.99 1500 meter PB is the rough equivalent to 4:12 and change for the mile. The existing American record is 4:16.71 by Mary Slaney and it’s stood for almost 35 years. The world record is 4:12.33 by Sifan Hassan.
I’m predicting 4:14.5 for Houlihan. Thoughts?
Thoughts? Fake news. Her 1500 WR equates to 4:13.84 for the mile according to the 1.0802 conversion. Now, I had a runner at Cornell who claimed the 1500 and mile were totally different events. Using that line of thinking, I think the mile benefits her as comnpared to the 1500 despite her 1500 background.
I'll be surprised if she runs 4:14.5 without male pacers but I think the AR is doable.
FAKE NEWS -- WE DISAGREE BY 1 SECOND !!!!!
Dude, do less. You're a founder of this place. Just interact like a normal human being. You could have just commented that you think it converts a second slower & then said the rest about the 15/mile being maybe a little different.
Yikes.
If she gets pacing right through 800m she can do it. She has to follow the model of Hassan as a more strength oriented miler and be no faster than 2.10/11 at 800m which will also suit pacing because a number of the BTC girls can get her there without a stupidly fast opening 400m (which an 800m runner would do almost guaranteed.)
When Hassan ran the record she passed 1500m in 3min55.5 (HT) which means she closed out the final 109m in 16.7 seconds which is about right on for an elite female stepping down in distance. I would expect Shelby to be able to do the same meaning that she would need to pass 1500m in around 3min59.0 to be safe. With 14min23.9 under her belt she can absolutely do this.
Prediction: Weather will be perfect on Friday night - She runs 4min15.88 to break record.
the mile is def the " tougher " of the two races to solo to a record . 3rd laps are killers . Even the super elites lose time from on lap 3 . But a 416 is no where near her 354 PR so this should be interesting . I will say 415 also
4:13.5x
I know better than to underestimate them this year

Comical. This group has demonstrated zero regard for their safety and health and others safety and health these past few months. From Park City to back in Portland. BTC Babies just don’t race anyone but themselves, and that’s got nothing to do with Covid.
Shelby 4:13.1 in another groomed, unsullied, time trial. No problem at all.
HI EMMA
Typical dem. Do as I say.

Why can't the Americans race each other here in the great USA. Please no more ridiculous time trials.
Thousands are doing it but 50 professionals getting together is to scary.
I'm calling that a lot of world records will be falling in the next 6-8 months. Governing bodies aren't able to work very well during Covid-19 which will result in cheating. That being said.. I think she will run 4:09:10

The jaw does seem to have changed over the years. Hopefully Letsrun's master chemist, aduck_2022 will chime in on this.

Then you didn't read or understand the rest of what I said. Passing a test might make a formal difference but not alter the actual reality, which is the most dopers don't fail a test.
Armstronglivs wrote:
It does make a difference but perhaps not as much as you think it does. Only 1% of tests return positives and yet there are expert estimates that put doping as high as 1 in 3 athletes (even 40%) at championship level. Sadly, the best performances remain suspect now.
You're sure pushing hard with the drugs.
Do you happen to be working for big pharma in a paid capacity?
