3 laps of a 3 mile loop?
I think you missed the point of running trails. Once you get away from the trailhead a bit, significantly less people and dogs. If that's how you're trying to run, just go run around the neighborhood and stop complaining about people living their lives.
It depends on where you live. I can see trails that aren’t wide being a problem. I have a few busier bike paths by my house but am able to manage because it’s wide. I also typically go at less ideal times (6am start) or later like 9:30-10am if you start around 7:00-8:30 am your gonna have more people. Dogs owners I find to be annoying and entitled. Even on wide paths they don’t shorten their leashes like they must take up the whole 12 ft. I have to repeatedly say get your dog over. Don’t even get me started on the lose ones. It’s like 90% of them too.
Holy F does this happen to you?
It was terrible before but now in covidia it's insane. During my run I had a few people for once walk on the outside lanes ok but usally they're in lane 1. Dog walkers in lane 1, off leash dogs on the infield running across wherever, bike riding, and everything in between.
One day I was asking people nicely to walk their ducking dog in the outside lane. One old lady (80+) comes up on the next lap and says "Maybe you shouldn't be running on the track".
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I had the best laugh of all time on that one.
In my head im like dog, please, running IS the only activity you should be doing on the track. Take your ducking bLtch back to the kennel.

On my track these weirdos are already out by 6:30.
Real life is nothing like "running with the buffalos" where there was a line about serious athletes are on the track at 630. Real life is wrought with dog walkers out for their own shiit when things aren't as busy.

This 100%. Many dog walkers go into fenced tracks because they think they can be alone their and train their dog and let it roam free on the fields.
Same happens on the trails. They take them off-leash, not expecting anyone else out in the wilderness. Then, when runners pass by there are often problems, as they tend to trigger the innate prey drive of the animals. So many people get bit each year, it's so sad.
And to those recommending to run very early or late at night - that's just as dangerous. Yes, there are far fewer people, but if someone actually wakes up super early to take his dog out for a walk at 5 am, it's likely that the owner wants to be alone because it's a dangerous dog that's known to chase and cause trouble. So while you may encounter fewer dogs at 5 am, if you encounter one of the "too dangerous to take out during the middle of the day types", you are really screwed.
you guys are lucky ... the other day i crossed a dog owner walking with her Pitbull/Bulldog unleashed !! ... the dog was playfully coming near me , but scared the hell out of me
I'm more worried about snakes.

Sounds like the problem is the trail. I run trails all the time in Ohio with no one on them. Like literally no one.
If you are in southern Ohio in the Wayne National Forest, you are BETTER off on the trails than you are on a country road. Every house has dogs that will run after you and if you did anything, the owner would probably shoot you.
Just want to chime in on how much I despise dogs. Only lonely losers need dogs or those that have nothing going on in their lives. Dog owners are lunatics and your dog gets kicked in the face if it lunges at me on my morning runs. Please go away dog losers. Your dog is ugly, smelly, loud, and useless.
A leashed dog is a beautiful dog. I wish leash requirements were enforced because I don't like your stinky dog jumping up on me. "haha he's friendly" Well I don't know that for sure. And some dogs are only friendly to those they know. I honestly have considered carrying mace and just macing any dog that attempts to jump up on me.
I run with the wolves baby. Some guys grab the horns of a bull but I'm more of a wolf kind of guy. I literally roll down the side of a mountain bro. Its so much quicker!
When i hear the banjos I run fast. I broke the american record on my last 3.09 miles once.

So right dude. I absolutely hate to see unleashed dogs especially in town parks, not so much the little white fluffy things but the big powerful dogs - they need to be on a lead. I confronted one old chap about his huge dog bounding up to me a few weeks ago, same old thing "oh hes friendly wouldn't hurt a fly", how the fknclkk fck fck do i know that? What if my little boy looked like a toy to it? If I wasn't a 120lb runner i'd have flattened him.
Where is the local public track? I live in Southern California and there are at least 10 synthetic tracks within 5 miles of me. Many more if I go further. Not a single one of them is open to the public.
As for trails, you don't go run around a local bike bath at the lake. Go find some real trails through the woods or hills outside of town. You'll be all alone, especially if you go early morning or evening. Even in high population So Cal I rarely have to dodge anyone on trail runs.
I run on trails every day and rarely have more than slight annoyance from dogs. When I do, it's usually a dog on a leash on one side of the trail with the owner on the other side so that the leash stretches across the trail. ? . Most people who have their dogs off the leash where I live are pretty good about it. I hate that so many people have dogs and keep them locked up in a small space all day, so I like to see dogs be able to go off leash and let off some steam. There is a small number of people whose dogs cause trouble and they ruin it for everyone. Actually where I live we've started to see a lot of bold coyotes lately. They hang out in gangs and attack domestic dogs. even a little kid got attacked recently in broad daylight.

I mean.... your answer is obvious.
Regardless of what surface you're on, the area where you are running is too crowded.
Trails can make that harder because you can't just go wide around an obstacle. On a sidewalk you could just go into the grass to get around someone.
.
Surely the opposite normally applies.

Exactly, who runs a 9 mile run in 3 x 3 mile loops around a town lake? So typical of millennials, have to have each run measured exactly and perfectly smooth and flat so they can run to within .1 sec of prescribed pace. Keep doing that you wimp, you deserve to be attacked by dogs, maybe even a couple of cats for good measure.

Right? That's what I was saying lol. Though, I'm a millennial, so not really sure that has anything to do with it... but I'm on your page for the rest of it
