BS. Nico Young doesn't run 90 MPW
Well, he can beat any high school runner without running 90 mpw. But if he has bigger goals, he would be running more. Just look at the training of his high school runner.

99.99% of HS runners do not run more than 70 MPW

Congrats David! You just did the math on what it takes to be the 1% of the 1% who make it to the professional level!! Now get off the internet and go run.

No. Stay on the internet where you belong. Your talent is for trolling, not for running.

It is because you get injured if you run that much mileage

No, you get injured when you:
1. Are not wearing the right shoes
2. Have poor technique
3. Do too much, too fast
4. Race the easy runs
5. Don't eat the right way
6. Don't sleep enough
70 MPW is what the top guys on our XC team did when I was in HS and 90 MPW in the off season wasn't unheard of. I coach several in that age range currently and they are anywhere from 50 - 80 MPW right now. One guy is top three in the state for XC, another has multiple D1 offers for middle distance, another is a steeple chaser, another is a triathlete who runs XC and Track for is school. Only the triathlete is on the lower side for milage as he has riding and swimming to do as well. He still trains 11 - 15hrs per week or so with a 16:xx 5K.
Stop making excuses.
So anyone can become a D1 runner with hard work?
That's not ANYWHERE CLOSE to where I was going, but your brilliant reading comprehension shows, yet again in jumping from 1 to 382 and skipping everything else between. So let's force the correct response. You've admitted you didn't get fitted properly, you've admitted no one has looked at your technique, you've said your diet is utter garbage, and you probably tried to race the easy runs to hang on to the group. And before you go off on "being too poor to afford food in California" Get a F'ing job instead of spending 8 hours per day on Reddit.
If you want to be a D1 athlete, it takes commitment from an early age to be the best at your craft and spending hours upon hours honing your craft. We're talking 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 or more years of committed training. As the old saying goes, hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard. Starting at 18 is simply too late if you want to be a D1 athlete. But, you still have time to put in the work if you want to be good in general.
I have half an idea to offer you an internship just so you can start unf'ing your head. Might drive myself to insanity in the process.
I regret not starting running in my freshman year of high school.

Alright, last time i'm responding to your bit.
Go see a sports psychologist. You need to let go of this whole regret thing. You're 18 with still your whole life in front of you. Go join UCLA's club team, go join your locals run stores club, go do something besides look back. All this looking back will kill you. You say you regret not being an athlete, well something you learn as an athlete is the ability to move on. Bad race? who cares. Bad workout? we've all been there. Bad day? make tomorrow a better one. Just keep moving. Life isn't "ruined" because you didn't play/do a sport in high school. There's so much more out there.
And again, say you cant afford one - go get a job.
SBR Out.
I was able to run 4:12 in HS on 25 MPW. It takes talent to get to D1, not work.

So I have no talent
