well, the problem with modern diesels is often too high oil level.
dpf regenerations forces diesel back into the engine oil, diluting it and damaging its properties.
This screws your engine slower but just as surely.

The warning light is for oil pressure. If you don't check the oil level until the oil pressure light comes on, you could be running the car low on oil for a long time.
Lots of cars tell you the oil level is low now. My last car was a 2011, and it did.

Relatively few. It's a good bet that SDSU Aztec was talking about an oil pressure light.
My wife is a very bright lady, she was valedictorian from a large high school, I met her in graduate school where she was a top student.
As the years have progressed I am stunned about how little she knows about cars, electricity, plumbing or anything mechanical. Now I have always taken care of that stuff but sometimes she almost seems to be willful in not knowing things.
She does not know how to turn off the water, electricity and never seems aware of any problem with the house or car. She has never used a plunger. She knows not to drive a car without oil, but if the oil light came on she would not know how to check oil levels and would know how to add oil.

Yep, and many people don't know they shouldn't talk back to the police when pulled over or get all aggressive with them. Definitely things that should be taught in school because they aparently aren't being taught at home.
Bit of a strange blurted-out digression on a thread about cars and oil, but ok.
Let's review some concepts real quick here:
In the U.S., police are not authorities. They have a JOB, which is to protect and serve the citizens, and to enforce the law by conducting lawful arrests when appropriate.
With a government of the people, by the people, for the people, it is actually THE PEOPLE who are the ultimate authority. This is why the first 3 words of the U.S. Constitution are "We The People".
In the U.S., police officers are paid by the citizens, and in fact work for the citizens.
I personally "talk back" to the police whenever I deem it appropriate. This is fine. Police work for the citizens, and I am a citizen. This example legally and constitutionally applies to all U.S. citizens.
Freedom of speech is guaranteed by the United States Constitution, for all U.S. citizens. As government employees, police officers in the U.S. are prohibited from retaliating against U.S. citizens for speaking.
In the U.S., it is illegal for police officers to assault citizens.
Depending on what you mean by "get[ting] all aggressive with them", well of course citizens should not assault police officers, as that would be illegal. But if by "aggressive" you simply mean speaking loudly, passionately, or angrily, well, like it or not this is perfectly legal. 1st Amendment. You know, in the Bill of Rights. You can find it juuuussst before the 2nd Amendment, in the good ol' United States Constitution, otherwise known as the law of the land.
Mmmkay, now we have that all cleared up ...
Dude, wow. She drove the car AFTER it already stalled out for lack of oil? Is the car totaled now, or will it be a complete engine replacement, or what?

Get a new girlfriend, that's the only thing I can say.
I'd say she needs a new boyfriend. Obviously the boyfriend should be doing that.
Not Colin Kap must be a police officer.
Talk back. The police aren't our parents. You are perfectly as entitled to ask them questions as they are entitled to ask you.
And that you can't get pregnant with anal
Also this. The cops aren't supposed to be treated like infantile children who can't handle criticism. You obviously shouldn't put your hands on them, but asking questions and getting pissed when they are being stupid is perfectly valid. People vastly overestimate how much power cops actually have because of TV and a lack of knowing your rights. My wife is a lawyer and is never intimidated by them since she knows exactly what they can and can't do. So they can't trick her into things like letting them search her car without a warrant and things of that nature.
Check her oil every couple weeks if you know what I mean.
Awww yeah
I would just laugh about it and make sure to keep an eye on her car maintenance every couple weeks or so. She probably also doesn't know to check her tire pressure and other fluids regularly and risks being take advantage of at auto shops. She's your girlfriend, so why not just help her out with these things?

This should be pinned as the difference between IQ and common sense

See my post in page 1
The increased crank case pressure , is exactly why there is an outlet blowing back through turbo, intercooler and back through DPF to intake to be burnt up. The pay off is oil usage and a clogged EGR that is costly to clean.
Many have an oil catch can that traps the oil before intercooler
Break up with her. That goes beyond stupid and I don't care how book smart she is. Ridiculous.
I'm assuming no father or competent mother in her home growing up. Your man card might need to be replaced for simply letting this happen.

Did you mansplain it to her?
You need a man to explain mansplaining.
In my 20's I figured once the car had oil that I didn't have to check it, and on a 240 mile round trip the car ran low on oil and the engine was fried. Since then I have routinely checked all the fluids.

I'm kind of at a loss. I thought this was the kind of thing everyone learns when they get their license at 16 (if not earlier). What gives?

What kind of moran doesn't know they shouldn't talk back to the police? oh yeah every single white persona on this planet. JK, sorry for the off comment but people that "don't know they shouldn't talk back to the police," generally (In my common sense opinion) have got to have some sort of mental disarrangement-bordering-on-ailment.

My friend's younger sister did the same thing. The funny thing is their dad b!tched about it. I thought, "Aren't you (the dad) the one that should have taught her a little something about cars, dipsh!t?"
Being ignorant is nothing to be ashamed of if the person is willing to learn. We all start out ignorant about cars (and everything) at some point.
I don't think it says anything negative about your girlfriend, but might give you a clue about her parents.
