https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/08/us/coronavirus-churches-outbreaks.htmlCongregants at Graystone Baptist Church in Ronceverte, W.Va., began to fall ill 10 days after Sunday services resumed in late May, with masks optional. There have been at least 51 confirmed cases and three deaths tied to the church, local health officials said.
Charles Hiser, 82, was the first of three churchgoers to die after contracting the virus.
His daughter, Libby Morgan, said her father had lived alone and had spent the last few months cooped up at home to stay safe.
Within two weeks, he had tested positive for the virus.
“I felt like, gosh, I was thinking he’d be safe there,” Ms. Morgan said. “You know, you’re in church."

“COVID is real, but please know that the news reports about COVID are largely unreal. Actual hospitalization numbers easily obtainable on hospital websites will show a much less alarming picture. We cannot ignore the fact that the glaring discrepancy between media reports and hospital reports is taking place in an election year. “
A pastor of a small church in Alabama, Daryl Ross, said last week upwards of 40 people have tested positive for the virus after a series of back-to-back, in-person revival services, telling Al.com “the whole church has got it, just about,” including Ross himself.
The planned week-long event was called off after three days, Ross said, when they found out an attendee had tested positive without symptoms—but according to Ross, “if you talk to our church members right now, they’d tell you we’d do it again. It was that good,” adding that only two cases of the 40 were serious to Al.com.
