Definitely. Molly Seidel spent some time in Bekoji and she posted a cool video that shows how they make it. It looked suuuuper tasty.
Maybe someday I can try it!

If you wear shorts on top of your running tights, does that make you a hobby jogger? What if you're also a member of Bekele's crew?
I think being part of Bekele's crew immediately disqualifies you from anything even remotely close to "hobby jogger" status.
Theoretically speaking, what if you’re part of the crew, but then busted for EPO after winning the European xc Championship?
He says lots of obvious and boring things...I don't get the hype, aside from just liking Bekele on YouTube, we need more of that!
I do wish they had him speak in—is it Amharic? They were doing subtitles anyway. He likely comes off as as the same person though. Low-key, straightforward and matter of fact about his successes, a little ruminative.
Really beautiful running landscape. Wish I had soft roads like that nearby. Did anyone notice the kids jumping over the fire? I think any American family would freak out, esp with the longish dresses.

He purely sounds like a non native english speaker.
That's why it's bad and unproductie to do these kind of interviews in English. People search their words and have limited vocabulary.
All interviews should be done in native language, or a language spoken very fluently.
I completely agree. It doesn't make sense. Almost all pro runners from Africa come from poverty and I would be surprised if even 10% have high school diploma. On top of that, spending most of their youth in the train/eat/sleep cycle (that's if they're lucky and didn't have to work their asses off labouring in some farm) ends up limiting their social skills tremendously. Thus, they have problem expressing themselves even in their native languages, let alone in English.
One of my dreams is actually going back home and starting a language/PR school for Ethiopian runners. Can you imagine how much more KB would have been worth, had he been fluent in English and had the social network presence/skill of even the semi-pro American/European athletes?
Any native english speaker who have some English teaching background wants to join forces?? we can go and stay at Haile's resort on the outskirts of Addis. Perks: 3km elevation, vitamin D spike, train daily with the local athletes, eat delicious Ethiopian food, get away from the barrage of sensational news, sleep 10hrs daily, meet cute Ethiopian ladies....
I agree that the interviews should be in his native Amharic, but I wonder if maybe he wanted to do the interview in English so he could reach more of a global audience? I don't know so I'm just speculating.
I love watching/listening to interviews of people in their native tongue and then just reading the subtitles. It does allow them to express their thoughts in a much deeper and more authentic way.

You really don't get it do you?! English is not his first language, of course he's not going to sound like a native speaker.

It was basically just embers when they were jumping over it. Not much danger.
American parents freak out over many things that are not worth freaking out over.
Anyone know if KB's first or most fluent language is Amharic or Oromo?
Thank you so much for this. Beautiful video.
Good question. I'm not sure! He probably speaks both, but I don't know which one he spoke growing up.

You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!!
My guess is that Oromo is his first language but that he also knows Amharic.
I agree that it would be nice to see something similar in his native language with a translator, though KB's English has improved compared to interviews from earlier in his career.
That sounds right.
Yeah he has improved a ton!! Respect to him cause English is not an easy language to learn as a second language!

Where is Banana Bread? I expected him to be all over this thread.
I literally just watched the video. It is epic. And no I didn't need any tissues. I didn't cry. I'm more alpha then the typical poster here.
I especially liked the way they had the barbecue and lit a fire and literally jumped over it. That looks fun. I'm tempted to do that if it is a traditional thing in the family. Glad to see Bekele is staying strong throughout the pandemic. I can't wait to see him race again.
Amen!! Hopefully they still hold London and just do it for elites only, if we're still not out of the woods in terms of the coronavirus.
He definitely has the fitness and the drive to break the Marathon WR and I really want to see that!!

As long as they didn't do a face plant, it was fine.
What is the threshold that separates a "hobbyjogger" from a "sub-elite" runner?
