Espn said akron claims it would save 4.4 million to cut the 3 sports. 2e athletes. That is about 170k per athlete. I call bull.

Does anyone know of any D1 institutions who have track and don't have cross country?
South Caroina is the only one of which I currently know.
Southern California has done it that way for decades.

Akron's press release was worded very poorly. They claim to save $4.4 million from the cutting of the three sports AND many other program, coaching, and administrative cut-backs. $4.4 mil is the total cut of which the 3 sports are a part.

They have women's xc. Looking at their men's roster, I was surprised they have a decent number of distance men. I didn't look at times so IDK if they are competitive. I guess track only can work with distance at a somewhat prestigious university in a competitive state.
What does your last sentence mean?
Men's track is next at Akron. Actually the MAC has already devastated men's track.
Good News Akron can NOT cut any more Teams so Track and Field for Both Men and Woman is Safe.
The rule is A School must have 16 sports with at least 6 for each sex, so Akron can NOT cut any more.

I meant A Division 1 School.
Not so fast....
The NCAA has just released the portal for schools to apply for an exemption in the minimum requirements for NCAA Division I status. This is only going to get worse.

Competitive runners don't need an NCAA to represent them. My assessment. Unlike with football, basketball, distance runners don't really need access to exclusive facilities that only the university can provide.
More up and coming running stars would probably benefit from a different model than the NCAA as it currently stands anyway.
Exactly this is a good opportunity to get away from the ncaa model. The only sport that benefits from it is football. Instead move to club systems where one can be in the same system 10+ years. This will provide a greater opportunity to fully develop instead of running three events at a meaningless college conference meet. College running has become a joke.

They worded it poorly on purpose. What Akron student or alum is going to call them out on it?
And get rid or HS sports too while you are at it. Kids just join a club. I always thought running clubs that were ages 6-86 were cool. I see a few in Canada (Ottawa lions) train with your ability level and have lifetime of connections. And this doesn't have to be just running. See NHL hockey which had Junior team throughout country and MLS same deal. This is the wave of the future. Hop on.
The beauty of chaos from change is that entrenched out dated organizations fail and we start better new. IOC, USATF, NCAA, HS sports orgs all should fail and time to start fresh for a new millennium.

How do you decide which words to capitalize? "A" but not "meant"? I've been wondering about this for a while and just had to ask
Who cares about the University of Akron?
It's not exactly like Stanford or something like that!

It sounds like you are feeling frustrated that others are receiving financial assistance to go to college for skills that you don't deem important, because it's important to you to feel like the systems you pay into are fair for everyone?
Attendance requirements are already in place... they are more strict than the ones you propose and circumvented too.
