I just don't get the wheelchair races tbh, it has more in common with cycling than actual running. Doesn't make any sense having it all in the first place in a RUNNING race. I think its great the wheelchair athletes doing a race and being able to win money but feels out of place at marathon RUNNING race.
I feel like it’s because running courses are more doable on a wheelchair. Climbing the Alps would be impossible on one.
It'll be a good challenge for them. Best of luck. They've done enough flat marathons
When it’s better to follow on live tracking and letsrun thread than actual tv coverage... that is a problem.
I couldn’t take it anymore and turned off my television. I’m not going to give ESPN ratings while they show wheelchair racing. It’s the only way they’ll learn.
I’ll turn it back on in 10-15 minutes when the coverage will hopefully shift to running.

It's not even the same sport. They devote entirely too much tv coverage to this stuff.
They leach off of marathoning. The courses are already shut down for them otherwise they could afford to perform. I don't mind that it exists, I mind that it ruins the TV coverage.. put pressure on the announcers to talk shop the first half of the marathon and treat it like a real sport.
Boston is 99% runners yet wheelchairs get about 60% of the coverage
This supposedly official Boston marathon thread is 96.3% comments bashing wheelchair racing broadcast.
It’s because we can’t watch the marathon. There’s nothing to post about. Gault has been putting up the splits.. the men are at about 18K and I haven’t seen more than a minute of them. No idea what’s going on in the women’s race.

Yep. Sad truth is that viewership would be in the hundreds if their race wasn't attached to the marathon. They wouldn't even be able to get support to shut down roads for a course if they were detached.
I don't mind them piggybacking on running but they shouldn't play this game that this is what viewers are tuning in for.
