I don't care about times. The tip off on Wiley was the World U20 final last year in which she repeatedly tried to mix it up with the Ethiopians and Kenyans over the final lap plus. Multiple aggressive surges. Athletic arrogance.
You never see American 1500+ women demonstrate that type of attitude. The vast majority do what Mia Barnett did in the same race...settle immediately to the back of the pack and make sure you're never a factor.
Wiley gave way late in that race because her early strategy was poor. She gave herself too much to do over the first three laps. It's obvious she learned from that because today she made sure to be untroubled near the front.
I love those U18 and U20 events because so many stars are revealed. That women's 1500 final certified Birke Haylom as a freak talent and Addy Wiley as most likely the best American 1500 female of the upcoming generation.
She also looked bigger and stronger and fitter today than my images of her from last summer.
