51+ / 54+ meant he went out too fast & would have been looking at at least 0.5s quicker with slower opener
That gets him to 1'45.4
Then, no pacing to bell offers at least 0.4s, getting him down to 1'45.0 with pacing
This was indoor & at this level should be ~ 1.75s faster outdoors
That gets his current shape at
~ 1'43-low
That is in January whilst just 1/2 way thru his winter training & virtually no speedwork as no one does speedwork in January
I woud suggest that as long as he doesn't get burnt out, 1'42+ outdoors is a given & it is probably going to be nearer low-end & kid is still 18y !!!
Gray's 1'42.59AR should definitely go this year

He's training as a pure 800 runner. Of course he's done speed work. The kid ran a great race, probably will run better, and I'm rooting for him to win some hardware and medals but don't lie about stuff you know nothing about. Please. And indoor there are zero variables with the weather. The conditions were perfect inside. !!

This is very good but nothing spectacular or indeed new.
1:45.9 indoors is very quick but what counts on the big stage is a sub 1:43 outdoors or indeed being able to win / medal at major champs i.e. worlds and olympics.

Also I think between 1992 and now doping has heavily effected medals in the 800m.

They had a nationwide teleconference for media today with Brazier. We learned he ran a 1:14.98 600 in practice in November. So sick.

Also, whilst Ventolin may be a bit optimistic there, looking at the world results from last year, the 4 athletes that ran under 1:46 indoors broke 1:45 outdoors later. The actual times were 1:43.3, 1:43.7, 1:43.8 and 1:44.6.
Adam Kszczot ran 1:45.77 indoors last year. Sub 1:46 indoors is VERY good.
So Vent, no 800m runner speed work in January huh.
