Not so much. Competitors find a way. The rest simply don't measure up.
To some degree yes, but he had a fall in a prelim in one of his best chances for instance. Solinsky of course had his breakout timed with a non-champs year. Luck and timing is involved.
Anyone else find it weird that Gault did not mention Allie O at all even though she was 4th in last years championships? Is this years field that much better than last years?
Allie O is not going to be a factor in this race
But she's a "trail racer" now. This course should suit here. I agree though.
the mud, the wind, the hills, spectators in your face, beautiful drone shots, slip and falls, greenery...give me xc majors/grand slam xc, a combination of F1 and trail running
Question: Why is it that in a XC race the runners are less likely to sit in a pack and jog like they do in a 10K track race? That is another appealing factor.
I think it’s a combination of larger fields and the fact that runners don’t have reliable splits. You do occasionally see slow starts (like the men’s NCAA race this year), but somebody always breaks away relatively early.
I see Kincaid differently. Solinsky and Goucher were big stars at the high school and college level, and they had high expectations as a result. To me, Kincaid is someone who greatly exceeded expectations anyone would have reasonably had of him coming out of college. Being a two-time U.S. champ and two-time Olympian is something I think he can be proud of.
I agree that is the first glance look. Just that its a shame the guy who blasted a 27s last lap in a 12:51 never had that moment in a global champs. Major overachiever and good story, though.
