Did Mike Rossi (viral marathon dad) cheat his way into Boston?

Why does Mike have a Boston 5k Bib??? Seems super odd.

Yo!!!! haha no way... I've been following this from he start, every single post. Now that I looked through his blog I just realized I saw him at Boston after the race... big smile from ear to ear. Probably was just relieved he "got away with it". I was having a generally crappy week but this is just pure gold. Thanks!!!!

A quick check of BAA 5k entry list show he was also entered into the 5k. Not unprecedented but I'm not sure I would ever do a 5K before a goal race.

Are there ways to see an older cache of his blog? So you can read stuff from prior years?

My wife did the 5k this year, and if I do go back next year, I would consider doing the 5k with her.

The shirts were much better than the ones we got.

The 5k had a medal. Mike loves medals. Mike posted pictures of his medal rack updated after each race. He also posted a pic of himself wearing three medals after the Philly RNR half and 5k; the third as an extra medal for doing both, so special!

Something tells me he isnt trying to lie here. I think hes just inexperienced. To people without running experience, 9 minutes off pace in a race that takes hours is considered nothing. To us its a lot, but its possible he really thought he could pick it up a little and be ok. Stupidity, not lying.

I couldn't immediately see the 2nd place finisher on Athlinks and didn't bother checking anyone else out. The results are BS, for the podium finishers anyway.

He already said like 2 pages ago that the results were incorrect.

And note that even if all of those assumptions are true, they do not effect the statistical argument. It's still 1 in 11 thousand they'd all miss him. Indeed, the very fact that photographers will miss some people is why we have to use statistics in the first place!

He did not run the race as he is not in the results, He was going to but abandoned the idea.

When I do Boston again I'll run the 5K again too. You don't have to race it, you can just jog it at easy run pace or try to run it with your family or friend. It's amazing how different Hereford and Boylston is without the other 25 miles in your legs. Plus Mike Rossi never liked to race 5Ks, he usually jogs them anyway as none of his previous attempts were indicative of his marvelous marathon performances.

It has video of the leaders coming through an aid station and clips of groups going through the same aid station up until 3:40ish finishers (checking bib numbers)...no sign of Rosie, but they may have some extra video somewhere on the cutting room floor...

I just read his blog for the first time. On March 29 he was writing about running a 5K with some back/hip soreness, and he said:

"I even had a pretty decent time (22:19)."

There is no way a 3:10 marathoner is going to say a 22 minute 5K is a decent time. It's almost his alleged marathon PR pace! I've been in and out of shape my entire running career, and I probably couldn't break 3:20 as we speak, and at no point would I ever have been satisfied with a 22:19 5K. That should be a jog for him.

Great point, my friend. This just might be the most damning evidence yet--for those of us who spit at the 22:00+ times and know we're better than that. :)

That blog is amazing. Does anyone have the cache of what he said about his Lehigh Valley BQ? How can a guy write thousands of words and not mention his BQ? Can someone summarize the posts before and after the Lehigh Valley race.

I'm going to Heps this weekend in Philly. Maybe I'll stop by his house and try to interview him or the wife.

So Rojo what is the next step we need to take? It's starting to get picked up by the main stream media an we need your article that you are writing to take it to the next level. Based on the Yahoo article, other meet director are obviously going to say he cheated. We have more than enough evidence to prove he cheated and we just need it sent to his local newspaper so he can get some local attention to.
