Still trying to figure out the balance here. No doubt that Rossi cheated and his denials make him look more ridiculous. But it totally pales in comparison to the widespread cheating by Litton over years all over the country, in marathons AND shorter races (sometimes multiple races in same weekend, check out those Gasparilla results), and when multiple sources did the research to confirm the cheating, letsrun.com just ignored it, took down the posts. I would have more respect for their work on Rossi if they had not dropped the ball so notably with Litton, forcing others to do all the work. Litton created far more damage to the sport than the hapless Rossi.
I posted several days ago that he purged his Facebook page of a lot of cover and profile photos that he had used to taunt posters on this board.
That was about the time he changed his cover photo to himself and his son, with their backs to the camera, looking out over a lake. That coincided with a huge drop off in the posts on here that I suspect were from Mike. I don't know if Mike does symbolism but it felt like he was moving on. When LetsRun put their piece out he had to know that he was suddenly going to get a lot of views so he cleaned things up a bit.
Now he is Mike, the country boy who supports the Marines, loves his family and is a wedding DJ.
Gone is the Mike of Nelson saying "ha ha," Johnny Cash giving us the bird, the Goodfellas laughing hysterically and a troll doll showing us that we had been "trolled."
I guess you didn't hear. Supposedly Mike is going around telling friends and family that all of his accts. were hacked and he didn't have control over those posts.
Seems he has regained control and is back in line. One question I have though, why would the hackers just attack those critical of Mike? Wouldn't they want to embarrass him by coming clean and admitting he cheated? Maybe they felt bad for him.

I noticed the same thing, in addition to cleaning up some twitter tweets. However, he is also now blocking those on twitter who have any negative comments. Are country music fans more accepting of cheaters and liars? I certainly do not think that Marines are. I think that most Marines, and even steadfast country music performers and fans, would be taken aback by Rossi's antics with regards to the way he handled the school issue, the cheating, subsequent lies about cheating, his trolling attacks and his real personality in general.

The difference is that Rossi's letter went viral so continuing to cover him has a much better chance of being followed by non-runners. I agree that Litton did more damage to the sport than Rossi. The other aspect is that Rossi stole a BQ spot, Litton was actually good enough to BQ himself without cheating. Although he did steal prize money which is bad also.
Maybe there have been enough cheats and Rossi just happens to be the one to break the camels back and ignite the backlash?
Rossi also kept this thread going, I'm pretty confident many of the posts are by him, didn't Litton disappear after a little while?

Just because he claims that doesn't make it so. Just like he claims was given 6 or 7 photos by the Via Marathon Committee that purports to show him on the course doesn't make it true, especially since he has no problem making that claim but refuses (wonder why) to produce them. Also, he is taking a page out of celebs/sports losers who tweet and post stupid things and say, oops, my account was hacked. Well, for someone who has no problem with posting all over the web, its a bit ironic this comes out second or third hand rather than from the horse's ass, I mean mouth. He could have set up another account and said that he disavows himself of the other accounts. There was the initial "Dan Baxley" stuff then lots of anonymous stuff on the thread here that could only have been him.
The fictional races were of course what set him apart from most rational people but his attempts to draw attention to his exploits were more low-key.

I know because I have had personal correspondence with several, including some of the first people you would absolutely have to talk to (they finished very close to Rossi or a few minutes behind him but also crossed the start line at exactly 7:10:31, for example). The marathon would have all the contact information, whereas I had to dig. Yet I reached out. The LVHN Via Marathon officials did not.
Not a single one told me they had been contacted by race officials. And I talked to them after the "decision" was released, when I was dumbfounded by it and wanted to know what in the hell kind of investigation they did.
As the press release suggested, nobody complained on race day so it was case closed. There was no investigation.
And if you are wondering why I dug up this video, it is because we are trying to get this reported back on the story.

The question then becomes: who at LVM is responsible for the lie? Barb McKeever? Lisa Walkiewicz? Bart Yasso? All of the above? It also leads to other questions. Did LVM even do an investigation? Who was involved in the investigation? Was USATF contacted as part of the investigation? Were ANY runners from the 2014 LVM contacted as part of the investigation?
