8th overall, same place as Webb on the mile performance list just saying.
Also I think he is a great runner. mostly Letsrun forum posters overhype him. I actually like his style he just had some poor tactics in doha.
No, I don't count busted dopers so Kiprop is out.
Webb is in a weaker top 10 by far. Jakob's 3:28 equates to a 3:45 mile. That would be 4th of all time.
I really don't think he would be 4th all time from comparing the lists. I think the lists are about equal. Just a few guys from both top 10s support your point and they don't.
The fastest 3:28 guy ran 3:43
The fastest 3:45 guy doesn't exist lol
However there are 9 3:28 guys
El guerroj 3:26.00 - 3:43.10
Morceli 3:27.37 - 3:44.39
Lagat 3:26.34 - 3:47.28
Kiplagat 3:27.64 - 3:47.88
Cram 3:29.67 - 3:46.32
Noah 3:28.12 - 3:43.40
Komen. 3:29.02 - 3:46.38

2 World Championship appearances, 31st in 2013, 13th in 2016. No Olympic appearances.
I am surprised she still has a professional sponsorship, but perhaps she promotes NB well on IG.
Is Cory McGee hyped never mind over hyped?

You guys are lame. Sydney is the number two performer all time in the 400m hurdles and won silver and gold at the 2019 WC. That’s pretty accomplished.
Exactly. I wonder about the track IQ of people on these boards.

The original response got it right - Jordan Hasay.
What has she done in global championships, ever?
Two third places at Boston and one third place at Chicago. Not too shabby.
With this logic let's see who was the superior runner on the day.
Shelby getting 4th in 3:45
J. Simpson winning in 2011
Pretty sure no one would say simpson

Im not hating at all. Great national level achievements and area records. I don't care that the 3:54 was in a fast race since everyone ups their level in those types of races. Remember the 8th place finisher in the 2012 800m hit a time (1:43.77) that would have one gold at nearly every other Olympics. All that matters is if you have the game to go top 3 when it matters, irrespective of the time. Who wants their legacy to be the best time-trialler in American history?
With this logic let's see who was the superior runner on the day.

Hasay started getting hyped when she ran a 4:34 1500 at 12 years old, won Footlocker XC as a freshman and made the Olympic Trials 1500 final as a 16 year old. Compared with many other prodigies she’s done well to become U.S. #2 AT at the marathon and make 3 WMM podiums. If that’s disappointing to you, I think the problem is with your expectations—when did you expect her to medal at global championships?
I kind of get where you’re coming from seeing as 50% of all LetsRun threads from ‘06 to ‘13 featured the meme “Um...ever heard of Jordan Hasay?” but I would totally pick Mary Cain (among dozens of others) for this prompt over Hasay.
I wish both Cain and Hasay future successes.

The lists aren’t equal. 1500 time X 1.079 = mile equivalent. Count up how many 1500s those runners contested, count up their mile races and get back to me.
Will Leer. He ran some decent times (decent is relative) but outside of a World Relays silver medal, he hasn't really done...anything at the pro level. So WHY were there so many threads about this man??

How many diamond league races has he won? He deserves a level of hype yes. But so many posters here neglect things like that.
Who the freaking a cares about the amount of diamond league races won! If that’s how you determine someone’s success in this sport then that’s a shame....whatcha gonna say after he brings home the gold at the next Olympics?! C’mon son....you’re better than that....

It pains me to say it because I like him a lot, but the answer may be Yuki Kawauchi. His PR is the #1209 perfomance ever and he is probably no longer among the top 10 marathoners in Japan. (There were 10 Japanese dudes under 2:08 at Tokyo earlier this year; another 5 were under 2:09.) In 2019, Kawauchi san placed 15th at Boston in 2:15:29.
I don't think he's really that "hyped". He's only really famous because he had a great underdog stories at one of the craziest marathons ever
I don't see many people talk about him like he's a real contender anymore
+1 He might be more popular than other 2:08 guys, but that's mainly because for his general story (amateur runs tons of marathons a year and still delivers good times) and obviously for his Boston win. I don’t think he ever was hyped for being potentially world class or similar.
Also it is a bit unfair to compare Tokyo 2020 results with Kawauchi's PB, as Kawauchi ran 2:08-09 multiple times, while Tokyo this year saw multiple guys who never broke 2:10 before vaporflying their way to great times. Still fantastic times of course, but seriously not comparable because of the vastly improved shoe technology.

Winning beats not even placing - regardless of the time. The runners would agree.
You guys crack me up. If some of these people are overhyped then sign me up to overhyped.
Think of all the high school phenoms this board drools over year in year out who crash and burn by 21, yet people on this board say the high schooler who actually made the Olympics at 16? Then followed that up with with world silver medal (relay gold) and #2 all time before she hit 20. Jeeeeez. If a skinny aww shucks midwestern white boy racing the 800/1500 made Rio at 16 then went #2 all time behind El G or Rudisha the Let's Run servers would crash under the weight of fangirling from this board.
Shelby? Lol, how many women have gone sub 2, sub 3:55, sub 14:30 (excluding random 1993/97 Chinese champs)??
The real answer is probably one of the many NCAA stars who never made the transition. They're a dime a dozen right now so take your pick.

No one is more unnecessarily hyped than Gwen Jorgensen, and it's made worse by so much of that hype coming from herself. She has literally no calibre at an elite level and needs to be dropped by Nike ASAP, unless they're just keeping her on because of her youtube channel. She is accomplished in a different sport but is a waste of Nike's money in T&F/Marathon. Stop jumping around events/distances, and go back to what you're good at. There are college kids better than you.
See you don't get it. You don't what pro runners are paid for. They are paid to promote the brand. Not really run fast.
Gwen is one of Nike's best runners in terms of promotion.
Stop being a hater. Understand the business.
Nah, what you've described there is an influencer. She can go be buddies with Zach Levet if she wants and make fun vids to promote OMG NEW KIT DROP but she's an overhyped athlete who doesn't deserve sponsorship (outside of tri)
anyone who is pro-Jakob but anti-Syd is a hypocrite. Both running insanely well at a young age at the highest level/comps for their country. Yes they still get beat, but idk what Tim Cheryiout was doing at 19* and it's not like they're far off.
*real 19, not fake age
