Although her 5:23 world record is very good, it at the same time is worth nothing, as the event is never run in world class competition. In fact, the only reason it was on the meet program in the first place was because Genzebe's camp specifically asked for it to be. The old indoor record was like 5:30, which isn't blazing for the best 3k/5k women in the world. There are likely a dozen women in the world right now that would have a shot of sub 5:30 if they actually wanted to find a 2000m race somewhere. The old outdoor record of 5:25 would have probably limited the potential record breakers to maybe two or three, but as far as a world record, it was weak.

Nonetheless, that time of 5:23 is worth about the same as a 3:57 1500m, 7 seconds behind her world record.

I am not claiming she is on EPO, but to suggest that she is just as good as she was in 2015 is just not accurate.

i know what you're trying to say but you're way off.you kind of have no idea what you are talking about and therefore i am assuming you are rather slow at the 400mi ran 50.3 (open) 49.6 (split) in high school. 1:55-56 800m and 4:28 mile. 16:25 5k. I ran 25 miles per week.In college I upped my mileage and ran a 4:06 mile and 1:51.1 800m in the last 2 meets of my collegiate career (it was a rough 4 years of track). I broke 49 once on a relay split and I'm here to tell you that just because someone can run 3:50 for the 1500m doesn't translate to the 800m and a 49-50 400m doesn't translate to the 800m so simply, especially for women. 49.44 won the 2016 olympics....

48.x split ~= 49.x open

You provided a pretty strong case for the argument you were trying to refute. Your 49.x/3:50.x capability resulted in a 1:51.1 800. Everybody's in agreement that neither 49.x nor 3:50.x individually translates to 1:50.x 800 performance. The point being made is that simultaneous 49.x and 3:50.x capacity DOES translate to 1:50.x 800 performance.

Just to clarify, the Carbon Isotope Ratio test is for synthetic testosterone (not EPO) since the standard T/E test is rubbish. The test is expensive so it's only used where there is suspiciously high T/E values.

I disagree Genzebe can be elite at anything from 800 to 10000m. A couple months ago I picked her and Almaz as the 2 women capable of running sub 29 minute 10000m. Just as I did years ago picking Tirunes and Avelegyese as the next two SUV 30 (almost 2 yrs before they did). It-s only a matter of when not if Almaz and Genzebe will run 10000m in 28:59.9. Funny Florence Kiplaglat was asked the same question before London and agreed about Almaz but I still stand by Genzebe 10000m ability.

Ayana obviously is capable of running faster than she already did, But Genzebe Dibaba is a pure "Miler" and never will be able to reach this sort of level over 10000m. I very much like her attitude to compete with the best over all distances from 800m to 10000m, but in the far ends she definitely will not reach the absolute highest level. I als very much like her will to break as much records as possible (indoors and out).

The only other runner in history which has had the same thinking was Aouita. With this attituded, both of them definitely will ruin (Aouita for sure already has) their chances to win more medals. But at least they try (have tried) to reach their potential over the full middle- and long distance spectrum.

Sometimes I really can't understand the athletes why they don't try to run good times over not their best distances or over the odd distances like the 2000m. Very hard to understand for me, why El Guerrouj in his prime not even has tried once the 800m. Andmore so the 1000m! He must definitely have been capable to run sub 2:13, probably very close to 2:12 or under.

And - no, I'm not so blind as not to see that all what we have heard about Dibaba, Aden and so on, makes her more than just little bit suspicious.

Putting this aside, I probably would rank her 3:50,07 as the Nr. 1 Performance of the last 10 years, probably still ahead of Ayana's fantastic run from Rio. This kind of form puts her so far ahead of anybody else, that nobody just would be close to her (for sure she is far away from this form, for what ever reason...). But she will never break the 800m or the 10000m WR. Around 1:55 probably, pure speculation for the 10000m, maybe 30:30? But I doubt she is mentally the type for the long distance.

With multiple 14:teens and 8:teens, Dibaba is not a pure miler. She was fantastic in the 1500m and it appeared to be her best event, yet she was also vulnerable at the 1500m, as well as 5000m. With the kind of closing speed that her sister Tirunesh showed in 5's, she might have run low 3:50s as well.

When I made the statement about Tirunesh and Evan (2 years before they did it) being next under 30 minutes. Everyone said they had too much speed buff look Tirunes is now a 2:17 marathoner.

I'm 100 percent certain Almaz and Genzebe can and will run sub 29 minutes. I'm sharing this certainty not trying to convince anyone. Just as I was certain and correct about the next two women under 30 minutes after Wang. Don't debate just wait till tube first two women run 28:59.99 for 10000m and see that it will be them.

With such statements you just show you can't be taken seriously. You are 100% sure Almaz Ayana and Genzebe Dibaba will run under 29 minutes? Well, you can't. You are sure you are right, because you were right in something else? Are you a relative of Ventolin?
