Key workouts are on 8th slide. Any Polish speakers who can translate abbreviations in first column on 8th slide? Stuff like "Owb 2" and "ZB" etc., what do they mean?

I saw this a year ago, the first 500m was about 1:20, the 2nd 1:14??, the 3rd about 1:02. At that point I flagged my 800m comeback, I'll stick to 5k fun runs.

The funny thing is Kszczot looks a better miler but only runs 8s, Lewandowski looks more a 400m runner/sprinter in the vid but has run 3:37 and his brother claims that he can run a useful 10k. Looks can be deceiving.

Agree 100% - no one running 100 miles a week can run 10.5 even with a fly start. Nick Willis is happy when he hits 11.0 for a flying 100m

Also interesting to see that he is already doing speed work in Dec and then Speed endurance work in Jan...yet claims they do not prepare for indoors?

Wonder how many miles Korir runs a week (considering he is only 0.01 slower than Lewandowski now). I'd hazard to guess he is doing less that 30

Thanks. That will save me some time sparing at book shelves. By the way, there was a Lewandowski from Poland in the 1960 800. He didn't make it past the first round.

Korir isn't of European origin.

The Sports Gene implies that Europeans produce less energy anaerobically than Africans, which may explain why Europeans need more mileage to compete at a world class level.

In comparison to Lewandowski, Nick Symmonds does 60 miles over 6 days in winter.

From the Polish athletics record site. No listed 100m PB for Lewandowski. No 30:00 10km either :-)

From here,

Ereng had Korir run cross country and assigned him between 55 and 60 miles per week in the fall.

Once they switched to the track, Ereng dropped Korir’s mileage to 30 per week

Why mention the three Yankee 800/1500 guys? Webb, done. He cannot race sub-2:05 800m today. Centrowitz, golfing on the back 9. He cannot race sub-1:46 today. Rebuilt Murphy lost his raw speed post injury. Murph cannot break 1:45 today. On letsrun often we debate 800/1500 guys and their mileage. Of course 800/1500 guys run more mileage than 800m specialist. Nothing to see here people.

Kszczot should try the 1500

Lewandowski has since shifted his focus to the 1500m. Since I posted this he has run 3:34, has won 1500m medals at the World Indoors and the Europeans, he is likely a 3:32 man now. One of the most underrated guys on the scene. So you can run faster than 3:37?

Not a huge amount, but I'm in Oz, and know Mathews (with one t) has been doing a lot of mileage. He did beat Rowe and Ralph.

Depends when you do it, shifting the FT with aerobic component. And if you were doing 14 miles a day in Nov and December, while running 100 meter sprints twice a week.

Is a running start lumped in with rolling start on this forum? I wouldn’t think there isn’t a distinct difference between a “shuffle” into the start and a gain of up to mile or marathon pace before the repetition.

Moreover, when these times are recorded for training of distance runners, especially outlandish ones like Marcin’s 10.5, they’re certainly referring to the latter, generous run-up, with no intent to deceive?
