He might have meant the races that are won in a kick are somewhat boring to watch with exception to the last lap. Maybe not, I don't know.

My opinion is that you run from point A to point B. Everyone starts at point A at the same time. Whatever tactic you use to come in first under the rules is fairplay. To each their own.

Maybe you should figure out what a kick is and were it starts before "you put your foot in your own mouth". Viren was said to have a kick, from long way out.

Wtf when has ever Solinsky done anything other thatn kick to win; other than Salazar and H.Rono and Skah not to many can do those surges to win

Why do so many runners in here assume these runners with faster PRs can run their PR anytime they want to?? The odds are against that in championship races.

this thread reminds me that i dislike viren. maybe the shadiness of the perfect peaking for the olympics, maybe i just wanted pre to win...just never liked the dude.

These Olympians who are "sandbagging" are still running at a pace 99.9% of you could only manage on your best day on a Lance Armstrong PED program.

There's a thing called tactical racing, don't know if you've heard of it.

i hate it too but it is smarter to race while sitting on someones back until the last lap. it sucks because someone is doing all the hard work and will lose it all in 1 out of 25 laps. but the guys leading a 27 pace race hoping to win are idiots. if you are going to lead a race, jog it for crist sake

Again, winning by 10 seconds over the last 800 is not sitting and kicking. It wasn't like he waited until 50 meters to go.

I agree with Dennis. You think that running marathon pace during a mile or 1500m race is exciting? That is ludicrous. Dennis' point about walking the first half describes the position against sit and kick perfectly.

In a 5000m, a guy 12:50 guy allowing the race to go at 13:30 pace or slower, as was done at the OG, is an idiot. Why on earth, with that kind of talent and fitness, would you allow everyone up to and including the 13:30 guys have a chance at a medal?

This is a common view of 'good' amateur runners. These are people that always finish in the top 10 percent of their races. Every race is an opportunity to PR. If they finish fourth or fifth overall but DON'T PR - then it is a disappointment, yet if they finish 10th with a PR then this is a victory. This also happens to be the demographic of the majority of this board. They simply do not have a true understanding of the very top pro ranks- they can only comment based on their own experiences.
