And look not that it’d be easy to coach Nordas, but it seems he maybe needs to get a bit more involved in prescribing his tactics and mentally preparing him. He had the luxury of not worrying about that with Jakob.

More like a parent missing his kids. The pain he’s feeling right now is probably nearly unbearable. The Euro Champs are probably bringing back lots of memories, and I’m sure he’s wishing he was there with Jakob now. No matter what you think of him, it’s undeniable he loves his kids.

I agree. Poor bloke clearly got drunk and is a bit maudlin. Half his family (who he clearly loves deeply) have turned on him. This is very sad.

A very complicated situation indeed. Worth reflecting on the question, to what extent does an elite athlete owe their (ex-) coach for their accomplishments? I suppose in this case the same question could be posed inserting parent for coach. At what point does an outside person's contribution begin and end? Surely the past *positive* contributions cannot be minimized, but are they the reason for the continued success?

It's a culture clash for entitled kids who reach the inflection point between gratitude for parents vs. their social circles & social media followers and for parents who grew up under vastly different norms for discipline.

I disagree. It reads to me that he's feeling unappreciated and trying to indicate that he deserves some of the credit for his son's success MORE than he's a parent missing his kids. While he does deserve some credit, when you burn your boats to conquer the land, sometimes the natives win the day. This is unfortunate. The price for fame is never cheap.

I worry Jakob won’t get to his WR form again with his father out of the picture. Jakob probably knows the formula for success but doesn’t know how to adjust it in stagnation or regression during training phases.

He had one of the best seasons of all time in 2023 without Gjert.

A season is always thee work of the coach of the last season. however if this one ends great (mile wr, double oly gold) it will all be him (with the good habits his father forced into him with a hammer from the age of 10).
