I was busy watching the sad Division III Champs. But I watched the 3K this morning. Here's what I think: Langon was at the edge of the rules headed into the turn, but gave Samuel just enough space. Samuel backed off for a split second to gather himself for his kick, when he did that Marco fairly got a step on him. At that point Marco was where Samuel wanted to be Samuel made contact from behind and essentially checked Langon out of the way. The DQ of Samuel was the correct call. Not sure if Marco or Sahlman would've won down the stretch, but I think the race would've been between the two of them. It would've been interesting if Marco had finished 2nd on the track but then won after the protest. I don't think he would've viewed that as the championship he's been striving to get.
At the same age, Nico Young won both the 3k and 5k, and he had already run 12:57.
Knew that and good for you lol
he is that only guy I think
No one said he did that lol
Yeah, Nico is the only American I can think of who ran sub-13 and swept the 3k-5k indoors at 21, but other US guys have also done extraordinary things at that age in the last five or so years:
Wolfe had already won the NCAA 5k title outdoors, finished top 3 at the US Olympic Trials, and had run 7:30.
Blanks had already won his first NCAA XC title and had run 13:03.
Hansen had a runner-up showing at the US XC championship, and he's run 13:07.
Hocker had already won US and NCAA titles, finished 6th in the Olympics, and had run 3:31.
Nuguse had already won an outdoor NCAA title at 1500m and anchored a DMR title.
Kessler made the Olympic team in the 800m and 1500m, finished 5th in Paris, and ran 3:29.
Green had already won his first NCAA outdoor 1500m title and had run 3:32.
Martin anchored his DMR team to victory and finished 2nd in the 3k last year.
Cutting is 21, and he won the mile this weekend.
Expand the scope a bit to achievements at 22, and we can look at Strand and Sahlman. Guys in the NCAA who are currently under 21 and showing potential include Kitchen, McFarland, and Birnbaum.
Langon has tremendous ability at a young age, but he's not the only one. We have a plethora of promising young talent in the US right now who have won big races. Within that context, Langon is becoming more known for what he says off the track than what he does on it.
I'm fine with Langon having a colorful personality, but he shouldn't be disrespecting Gault the way he did. And if he's going to talk a big game, at some point he needs to back it up. He didn't do that this weekend.
You got to admit that it’s fun to finally have a real life distance villain that fans can boo and root against.
There have been and are many real-life distance runners that some consider villains.
Some root against Shelby Hoolihan because she was suspended for drug use and is now competing again. Others root against Paul Chelimo because they do not like some of his end of race tactics (remember he was DQ'ed for those in the Rio Olympic 5000, but then reinstated.)
Many believe Women's Marathon record holder Ruth Chepngetich is a distance running villain.
Some root against Langdon because he is confident, a little brash, races aggressively and his demeanor is different. Similar to how some rooted against another distance runner from Villanova- Marty Liquori.
Not accusing Langon of drug use, illegal tactics or claiming he has achieved the status of the other runners mentioned.

Yeah, Liquori was definitely not afraid of contact while racing.
He does not have the cookie cutter personality of a distance runner. Love or hate the interviews, they are interesting enough to create discussion. He is a great runner!
Marco likes to talk about being a man, but he sure acts like a kid. His reaction to a legit question from JG was just silly. JG is out there doing his job, a job that provides critical exposure to the sport, which helps the athletes, including Marco. JG cares about track, which is why he does this, instead of something that pays a lot more $$. If Marco is a man, he'll cool off and apologize to JG for the rude treatment. That's what a man would do.
There's nothing wrong with this guy. He's just straight forward no BS type of guy. He knows what he wants and isn't going to p@ssy foot around to get it. I like that he takes responsibility that he lost and owns up to it and doesn't let it take him down. He's going to move forward. I wish this guy the best.
You sissy boys on let's run can learn a lot from this guy instead of crying like babies all the time.
Aside from you saying "There's nothing wrong with this guy", calling everyone "sissy boys" and "cry babies", your post was great...NOT!!!
Your boy Marco, sh^t the bed AGAIN! He didn't take responsibility for LOSING, AGAIN!. He said he got "pushed out", WRONG! He tried to pass on the turn (not smart), and then leaned in and crowded Samuel (watch the race again), once he knew he couldn't pass him, he was toast. He also had ANOTHER bullsh^t excuse of throwing up the night before with food poisoning. I'm starting to think this guy is delusional, he keeps saying he's the best runner in the NCAA, and threatening everyone (leaving a trail of blood in Eugene?),the last time I checked, you have WIN an NCAA championship race to be the best, not just think it. This dude is a legend in his own mind. The sad part is that he's super talented, but can't get out of his own way. He's now put a sh^t ton of pressure on himself going into outdoors, and if he doesn't win, there will be NO excuse, the athletes and people who know this sport will simply write him off. If he's this obnoxious when he loses, imagine what he'll be like if he wins, and if he does win, no one will care.

This.
JG didn't even ask rim repeatedly.
He asked once if ML thought it was DQ-worthy, and then he asked specifically if ML would protest.
Very reasonable follow-up.
The kid is a clown and should know that after his leaves his NCAA ego-bubble nobody but LetsRun.com is going to care at all about his races, unless he is in the Olympic final.
He should be thanking JG all day for being one of the tiny group of fan-journalists who give a.f. to cover the meet. I bet the media there are literally LetsRun and then >80% school media.
