Hull was completely obnoxious through the opening laps and Tsegay was annoyed. Even Hulls ridiculous pony tail was impeding anyone near her. Glad she faded to fourth. WTF was going on with Muir??!?

Sometimes running at home is a burden….got to visit the family and all of your friends and your old coach….takes a lot out of you.
Often this sport is pretty predictable but that result was legitimately shocking. What an awesome race.
I also think Goucher made a good point about this result being important for the other US women. Tsegay is in the club of African-born runners who seemed untouchable.

I think we might’ve given her a bit of a pass in losing (technically not I guess) that Millrose 2-mile to Eisa. Yeah she said she kicked early to hit the 3k split, but either way there’s a significant gap from Eisa to Tsegay. Muir is versatile but ultimately 3K is probably too far for her against the best.

I agree 100%. Even at their very best we don’t think the US women have any shot of defeating the likes of Kipyegon, Hassan, Tsegay, Chebet, Gidey. This was a shocking result, even if indoors.
the 1500m is too cornered a market between Hassan, Kipyegon and the Ethiopian contingent
but with people closing in 56 lol who knows
an 8.20 is impeccable though well done ESP!
The 5000 is stronger than the 1500. You likely have Chebet, Tsegay, Hassan, Kipyegon all exceptional championship racers. 1500, Mageean wasn’t too far from a medal and I think ESP is better and Sifan likely won’t be in it.

If we are not counting 800, because Mu is otherworldly, maybe the best female distance performance since like…Joan Benoit? Jenny Simpson 1500 gold?
You're discounting seidels performance and you're omitting the Des Boston win in that list.
Seidel's performance was fine and great unexpected.
Des's Boston win was a weather related clown show that would never ever happen again and doesn't deserve any comparison to actual athletic performance like ESP just displayed

Not sure why anyone expected a lot more than that from Muir. I'm a huge fan, but she's an 800/1500 runner - she's run 1:56 and 3:54. Her 5k is comparatively weak, only 14:48. She has only been doing threshold training since she switched coaches. IMO, Muir ran close to her level at this distance and would have needed a PB just to medal.
But that was outstanding be St Pierre. I was convinced she'd gone too hard, but to outkick Tsegay is stunning.
