Why can't ESPN just do what NBC did for the Olympics? You want to watch the sh*t coverage, watch it on ESPN2 (In NBCs case this was the main channel) and everything else available via their streaming app?

On the ESPN App, put the mens and womens race split screen on ESPN, the sh*t coverage on ESPN2, the wheelchairs on ESPNU or whatever. If the miniscule amount of people that actually care about the wheelchair race complain about being on ESPNU, then move them to ESPN the next year for the whole 1 hour coverage.

Better yet, spin up a whole new channel on your app, just for the race. It's not that hard to call it ESPN Marathon. Literally spin it up, put some server space behind it, give it the look and feel of existing of ESPN Apps and then shut it down when the race is done. You could do a channel just with the mens marathon, one with the womens marathon and a one with the wheelchairs for a very minimal investment.

A 9.79/5.0 race is not better 9.81/-0.3. We have learned LONG ago that wind-aided marks are not worth their nominal value. If you still do not understand that then too bad, many here do.

They should use a different color and make it a dashed line.

Back before she got good (i.e., after winning Boston while at Bowdoin) I had exactly the same Marathon PR, 2:35:15, and 15km time, 51:28. Very difficult to get both but a nice coincidence for me; I was a really good recreational runner who saw her win the Olympic Marathon in person.

Let's be real here. Khalid Khannouchi is by far the fastest U.S. marathoner ever. He's held the national record for over twenty years, and he beat the best collection of world-class distance runners ever assembled in a marathon to that date -- all three of the world marathon record holders of that era, in what may still be the only marathon performance ever named as the performance of the year by Track and Field News. Even with super-duper shoes, no American has come close.

Synthetic EPO was "invented" in 1987, when it was also first used in the treatment of kidney disease. And Frank Shorter never ran under 2:10. His fastest was 2:10:30, when he won the 1972 Fukuoka Marathon, probably one of the greatest marathon performances ever by an American. Bill Rodgers also never broke 2:10 on a record-quality course, barely breaking 2:11 at Fukuoka. That said, I think that they, along with Khalid Khannouchi and Ryan Hall, would have been competitive at their best with the best Americans of today under similar circumstances. I'm somewhat reluctant to include Al Sal, simply because I know for a fact that he was using exogenous testosterone during his competitive career. I don't know much about Rupp's marathon record, because he seemed to have a number of mediocre performances in a marathon career that began in 2016, when Nike completely altered the shoe technology and restricted its use to its own chosen runners (which, among other things, somewhat undermines his Olympic bronze in 2016). A number of other Americans arguably deserve mention, but they tend to be a bit more one-off than others I've mentioned here. These GOAT-like debates rarely end well, and even more rarely end intelligently and insightfully, so I'm loathe to get too deeply or definitely into them.

Des Linden ran very well again. How can she retire now? She is a very strong marathoner. Every year she brings it at Boston.

She says it's so much work to come in 17th, 18th. She'd have solid builds and run a 2:28 or 2:29 each time. This one she put her head down and cut some publicity events cause she knew it'd be her last one. So she always does what she sets out to do—a 2:26—but she says the sport's moved on. Girl is realistic and has other interests.
