Bates is getting hard to be a fan of, so much talking like she's relevant on the world stage and so much not being that. It's like Gooch on LIV. At least Sisson is humble and tries to let her running do the talking.
American women's marathoning is basically in the same place that American men's marathoning was before Conner Mantz ran Boston 2 years ago. Where, basically we knew everyone already in the field and they had sort of reached their peak. They are solid but not elite runners.
I am hopeful that when Taylor Roe, Emma Grace Hurley, Weini Kelati, these other newer generations of runners get to the marathon, that they can inject some enthusiasm into the women's side.
I'm just wondering why very little mention is made of the three African gals that broke the 220 barrier. That isn't right news coverage. LOKEDI LOOKED LIKE SHE WAS IN AUTO PILOT. OBIRI WAS JUST HANGING ON FOR DEAR LIFE
Every American male not named Ryan Ford and Connor Mantz, though the latter has reason to be devastated as he was dropped like a bad habit in the last miles.
Where was Panning? CJ didn't run like CJ but somehow ran worse than expected? Reed Fischer? I don't expect much from some of these guys but that was pitiful. Clayton Young looks to be on the back end of his career and went out with a whimper today. I wish Matt Richtman were in this just to shake things up. The worlds team this year just got interesting- Young and Panning are no longer locks, Mantz kind of has to run it now with another major win eluding him
Pat Tiernan went BTA to most Americans today and he hasn't been relevant in a long, long time.
No excuses for weather. No excuse to lose the leader ala Sisay Lemma 2024. Back to the drawing board for many of these guys.

This is what you took away?
I don't know where to begin. I think Conner is running Chicago to try to set the AR. And barring injury or crazy weather, he is going to get it.
Pat Tiernan ran his marathon PB just one year ago, and it was faster than anything CJ, Panning or Fischer have ran so I don't know how you could be surprised.
Feel like too many Americans go in with the mindset of racing, would be better off training to time trial and get the best time they can, most of them aren't competitive in the first place and blow up trying to stay in touch with the lead pack
Hell of a run by Conner Mantz. He was pushing so hard to break Kotut and Simbu those last two miles but just couldn't shake them.
He'll be a little bummed to have just missed two HUGE accomplishments as he was only 4 seconds off the podium and 8 seconds off of Ryan Hall's 2:04:58, the fastest marathon ever by an American.
But a huge 2:05:04 pb and 4th place is a tremendous run -- the best marathon of his life to date.
Let's be real here, Ryan Hall's PB is 2:06:17.
NO ONE else in that fast wind-aided Boston race ever ran within 75-90 seconds of what they ran that day in the wind.
D'Amato's trajectory has been really strange. Was thinking after a healthy buildup at altitude under Eyestone she might be able to do something special again.
I love rooting for Bates, and I don't think she would talk big game if she didn't believe it. But I do think she needs a new coach.
Super happy for Jess McClain!! She is so easy to cheer for and such a smart and consistent racer.
Feel bad for Obiri, but so freaking happy for Lokedi. 2:17 on Boston is insane.
Good day for Des. And happy Frisbie finally had her breakthrough!
Conner really stuck his nose in it and pulled it off! He must be disappointed with almost going under 2:05 and almost being on the podium, but he should be massively proud. This will probably just motivate him even further. Good day for Clayton, too.
Puma really had a day! The Puma Fast-R 3 really must be as good as the studies are saying. Rory, Pat, Annie, etc.
Let's just all agree Mantz in no way benefits from super shoes and there was a hurricane shoving Hall down the course, makes things easier for thread purposes
