Sharon Lokedi absolutely the course record running 2:17:22 demolished Helen Obiri thanks to a 5:04 final mile that allowed her to put 19 seconds on Obiri in the final mile. Obiri held on for second in 2:17:41 with Yehualaw in third running 2:18:06, all well under the previous record
We didn't get to see it because of course we didn't. I really don't understand who's in charge of this, and I also don't understand why I schedule my morning around watching this every year. I guess I just hope it gets better? There's literally no difference between watching and just checking the times afterwards
Was the camera not on the actual finish line? The runners were all trucking past the finish line like there was another finish line further ahead off camera.
How many pro runners will continue past the finish line until they get to the overhang and that single white line below it? Every year it's at least 3-4. Especially since the word finish is backwards for the runners ( but correct for the photos).
I called this yesterday. BAA does a bad job labeling the finish line and athletes think its farther back. Its the first line with the word FINISH, but there is a 2nd white line that the volunteers are not supposed to cross. Athletes think this 2nd line is the actual finish.
2:05:08 beats 2:04:58 as long as people on their computers say it does!
No wind. Super shoes. Tie
False. They aren't comparable. Malmo is correct, that was a HUGE tailwind. I like Ryan Hall, but Mantz's performance today was better than Hall's, not a tie.

Yes I think Kotut lost a place due to this. He flew by Simbu with a surge past the real finish…

It was a great race between the two women! Lokedi has been so consistent in her marathon career, always in contention: 2022 NYC gold, 2023 NYC bronze, 2024 Boston silver, 2024 Olympics 4th place, and now 2025 Boston gold. Easy to forget that she was 2018 NCAA champion in the 10,000m beating Karissa Schweizer!
Quit kidding yourself JG. No one considers Halls 2:04.58 a record. He had a hurricane at his back. Mantz had a headwind the entire way.
Correct Malmo!
Even if we're being conservative, the super shoes are worth a minute, but most calculations say around 2 minutes at that sort of pace.
It's honestly not worth comparing times between eras, the shoes changed the game so much. Better to ask how Mantz's performance compares to others after 2017, the start of the super shoes era. And it compares very favourably.

Yeah like I said, as long as people on their computers say the slower time is the faster one that's what it must be!
